JOB SUMMARY

Under the Direction of the Chief Nursing Officer / Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing has administrative and operational responsibility for this assigned department, including management of cost and finance, human resources, operations, quality of care and clinical outcomes, patient, physician, and staff satisfaction, change management and any other relevant responsibilities related to this position. Serves as part of the management team and Shared Governance Model focused on promoting the mission, vision, and values, of the Advanced Diagnostics Healthcare System and the Nursing Professional Practice, embracing a person-centered philosophy while promoting patient- family centered services across the hospital and enhancing value-driven outcomes

Will provide professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conduct nursing assessments, assist with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintenance of medical records when needed on the floor.

This position communicates and collaborates with the physicians and hospital health care teams to facilitate, coordinate, and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and achievement of desired treatment outcomes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As Director:
  • Develops standards of performance, policies, and procedures for designated areas of responsibility.
  • Organizes the areas of responsibility in accordance with administrative guidelines to provide specified nursing and patient care services to meet organizational, regulatory privacy and Medical Staff guidelines.
  • Leads staff members. Manages, implements, and effects change.
  • Maintains safe work environment and culture, promotes excellence in customer care.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Coaches staff on cultural diversity and addresses workplace horizontal impairment. Creates an environment which recognizes and values differences in staff, physicians, patients, and communities.
  • Directs implementation and ensures compliance with standards of nursing and professional practice that promotes optimum health care delivery along the lifecycle continuum.
  • Identifies opportunities for improved customer value.
  • Manages Quality Patient Care and Quality patient outcomes.
  • Manages Patient/Physician/Staff Satisfaction.
  • Collects and analyzes data to improve performance.
  • Thorough knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures and organizational structure.
  • All Human Resource for the Unit which includes Staffing, Terms, Disciplinary Actions, Performance Review
  • Plan and schedule daily work for nursing staff.
  • Identify areas of improvement and implement corrective plans.
  • Supervise and guide nurses in providing quality patient care to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and empower staff.
  • Ability to perform under stressful and changing circumstances and deadlines.
  • Identify and act on predictable needs of the patient.


On Unit/Floor:
  • Follows up in a timely manner in response to all patient's/ family concerns including communication with administrator on site.
  • Will demonstrate clinical competence when providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies, acting as a patient and family advocate.
  • Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the management team.
  • Notify assigned physician of any changes in condition.
  • Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the hospital.


Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS
  • ADN, BSN Required
  • Current Texas RN License
  • 5+ YRS experience in Medical Surgical Unit, ICU, ER, OR combined. Acute Care facility.
  • 3+ YRS Leadership
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS required.


EDUCATION
  • ADN, BSN from a University, or an accredited School of Professional Nursing, Required


CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
  • Current Texas RN License
  • BLS, ACLS PALS required.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to meet the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Be able to carry out the plan of care by performing/assigning delegated tasks.
  • Complete nursing assessments within required time frames, and in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Identify and act on predictable needs of the patient.
  • Ability to meet the health care needs of patient by assessing and assisting the patient to meet expressed needs.
