NextCure is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Research Scientist to join our translational research and bone team located in Beltsville, Maryland. The candidate will be part of an innovative team developing novel antibody therapeutics from proof-of-concept studies through development and translation to the clinic. The Research Scientist will have the opportunity to engage in multiple aspects of drug development and contribute to an exciting scientific pipeline. The Research Scientist will work on in vitro testing as well as in vivo models to assess efficacy and support selection of lead candidates. Prior experience in therapeutic antibody research and development is ideal. Therapeutic experience in Bone programs preferred, Oncology or related area considered.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and perform a variety of cell-based in vitro assays and in vivo animal studies to support pipeline programs
  • Design, execute, analyze, interpret and present mechanistic and disease relevant studies
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to design, execute, interpret and communicate studies for multiple projects

Required Education and Experience
  • 3+ years of experience with drug development or IND-enabling studies at a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
  • Ph.D. focused in Bone Diseases
  • Proven history of active involvement in the drug development process in the therapeutic areas of Bone or Oncology will be prioritized for the role
  • Expert hands-on work capabilities and skills in a laboratory setting working with in vitro assays, flow cytometry, and IHC
  • Primary cell culture expertise and willingness to work with multiple in vivo models of disease
  • Disease relevant research experience in cancer immunology, autoimmunity, inflammation and or other immune related studies is a plus
  • Ability to independently design and execute experiments, make detailed observations, analyze and interpret data, and deliver timely results while keeping accurate records
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven record of publishing, writing, and presentation skills
  • Prior work history in a start-up environment preferred
  • Flexible with the capacity to prioritize workload and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
