Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Utilities and Engineering Services supports the strategic planning, development, and management of the university's utilities and engineering operations. This role assists the Director in ensuring the reliable, efficient, and sustainable delivery of energy services, including electricity, heating, cooling, water, and wastewater management. The Associate Director will play a critical role in advancing the university's mission and sustainability goals through effective infrastructure management and project oversight.
Qualifications
Master's degree and four years of related engineering experience or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering and six years of related engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering Preferred.

Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Utilities and Engineering Services supports the strategic planning, development, and management of the university's utilities and engineering operations. This role assists the Director in ensuring the reliable, efficient, and sustainable delivery of energy services, including electricity, heating, cooling, water, and wastewater management. The Associate Director will play a critical role in advancing the university's mission and sustainability goals through effective infrastructure management and project oversight.
- Ensures the reliability and efficiency of the daily operations of the central utility plants, electrical, steam, and chilled water distribution systems, and the accuracy of energy consumption tracking by providing leadership and direction in the management and cost utilization of the University's energy resources and services. Provides oversight of the engineering review of all campus projects; provides troubleshooting assistance for all campus engineering systems; and provides design support for minor campus projects when practical. Directly or indirectly supervises staff in Utilities Maintenance and Engineering.
- Directs strategic planning by coordinating and developing programming for future central utilities facilities and infrastructure requirements to meet the need of the University's utility requirements. Provides oversight of the review of contract documents for new construction analysis of energy use and equipment specifications. Develops and maintains partnerships throughout the University as a member of the campus emergency management committee, which includes responsibility in emergency planning by coordinating emergency responses, and directing recovery operations and emergency repairs when necessary as they relate to campus utility services.
- Ensures that all plant systems are maintained in such a condition as to be capable of operation within all Federal, State, and local environmental, safety, and health guidelines. Responsible for assisting the FSU EH&S department in gathering environmental reporting data for required permitting. Responsible for review of the university design standards, and the review of university projects to verify compliance of those design standards.
- Supervise a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Provide guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to team members. Assist in performance evaluations and development plans for staff. Provides leadership and direction in policy development and implementation relating the University's utility services including physical growth, environmental concerns, energy conservation, and HVAC systems. Interprets and administers policies established by Federal, State and local agencies
- Responsible for developing and administering the annual maintenance and capital budgets for assigned areas and ensuring appropriate allocation and expenditure of resources in these areas; monitors and controls expenditures and utility consumption to assure compliance with budgetary constraints; and prepares budgets and plans for extended development of University Utility requirements.
- Functions as the primary liaison between the campus and City of Tallahassee regarding utility connections.
- Ensures the proper function of all University owned metering in order to provide accurate billing and as a check of the City of Tallahassee owned meters.
Qualifications
Master's degree and four years of related engineering experience or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering and six years of related engineering experience.

- Knowledge of principles and practices of project planning, development, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of processes, procedures, and methods used in facilities operations.
- Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials.
