Job Summary and Qualifications

As the President of Anesthesia Services, you will lead a team of five (5) direct reports with an overall provider team of approximately 800+.

The primary responsibilities of the President of Anesthesia Services includes:

Provide senior level assessment and consulting services to Group, Division, and Facility leadership for Hospital Based programs in all HCA facilities. Serves as the dedicated leader of HBP Assessment and Consulting services. Coordinates engagement planning and execution for Assessments, Negotiations, and RFPs. Structures Hospital Based coverage models for HCA's facilities and manage contract negotiations with preferred partners and ensure Professional Services Agreements are consistent with HBP standards. Coordinates multiple (typically 80-100) engagements concurrently, including: on site interviews, utilization analysis, current state/future state proforma and staffing models, financial projections, billing analyses, detailed requests for proposals (RFP's), and comparative analysis of vendor responses. Knowledgeable and capable of working with all Corporate, External and Division-level operations counsel, fair market valuation firms, etc. to complete PSA's with Hospitals and Divisions.

Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other operating groups within HCA such as OSG, CSG, etc. Communicates regularly as required, (weekly, biweekly or monthly for operating reports MORs with the Corporate and Group Leadership, Division Presidents, Division CFOs and the Divisions' hospitals' CEOs. Ensure all internal approvals are achieved prior to contract execution (e.g. FMV, PAWS approval, etc.)

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Recruits, develops and retains top talent for the Anesthesia Service Line & HBP Consulting Teams.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Anesthesia Services and HBP Consulting engagements including process, recommendations and outcomes.
  • Supports Corporate, Group, Division, Facility, PSG, OSG and HBP leadership to assess and determine the Hospital Based Physician Service best practices regarding quality, operations, and financial performance. These efforts will help support the Facilities' strategic and operational goals and objectives. Works successfully with all levels of HCA corporate, Division and Hospital leadership, as well as PSG and HBP leadership to assess and identify the best HBP options including staffing, costs, practice expenses, financial projections, sophisticated presentations to Hospital and Medical Staff leadership.
  • Uses and develops sophisticated processes and procedures to gather and analyze critical information on a variety of provider covered locations, shift requirements, on call requirements for multiple services, OR room utilization, billing analysis, working closely with Facility staff and providers to develop comprehensive recommendations and requests for proposals, analysis of vender response comparisons, and recommendations about each HBP service involved.
  • Divisions and Hospital leadership and HBP Vice Presidents to complete comparative analysis of RFP responses in a timely and accurate manner. Is accountable for following legal guidelines and working with the multiple Division legal ops counsel to complete professional service contracts.
  • Understands the critical nature of Hospital Based Physician services which are vital to the operations of HCA Hospitals and that failure to perform the duties of this position and result in the disruption and delay of vital patient care services.
  • Negotiates complex agreements involving multiple millions of dollars and the important impact on financial profitability of HCA Hospitals and Divisions. Develops and presents detailed staffing and coverage reports, carries out complex discussion with physician vendors and negotiates contracts on behalf of Hospitals and Divisions. Drafts contract terms and letters of intent (LOI) for legal ops review. Works with Hospital as needed on complex implementation plans.
  • Serves as an important link during critical transition of vendors to avoid disruption of Hospital services.
  • Takes initiative to develop steps and processes in an effort to proactively identify areas of opportunity within the HBP space.
  • Interacts with Physician and -Advanced Practice Provider (APP) leadership to ensure practice business needs are met and performance is sustainable.
  • Communicates the Assessment and Consulting suite of services effectively throughout all levels of the organization and represents the A&C team in professional manner.
  • Actively seeks opportunities for improvement through client, subject matter expert, vendor partner and leadership feedback on A&C materials, communication and processes.
  • Works effectively with preferred partners, serving as liaison to hospital CEOs and Division Leadership to meet the needs of the facility and HCA.
  • Develops and drives the strategic direction of HBP in conjunction with partners / vendors, Divisions, and Hospitals' CEOs.
  • Interacts on a regular basis with Division and facility leadership to ensure their Anesthesia/HBP services and clinical operations needs are met:
  • Assists partner/vendor in resolving any clinical quality/operational/financial issues.
  • Reviews all subsidy requests to ensure financial viability of the program
  • Keeps lines of communication open between Division Leadership and HBP partner/vendor.
  • Analyzes and forecasts the impact of increasing or decreasing current level of HBP services provided by the program
  • Recommends corrective action as required to eliminate negative variances.
  • Works with partner/vendor to ensure timeliness, accuracy and completeness of all other financial reports to meet specified deadlines.
  • Works with partner/vendor to develop and report key financial and other operating indicators.
  • Assists partner/vendor operations team with implementation of new program start-ups.
  • Works with Division Leadership and partner/vendor to develop models to assess ability of new ventures to meet HCA enterprise financial and operational goals.
  • Evaluates financial performance to budget and prior period trends and understands causes of variances.


EDUCATION:

  • Master's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration. Advanced clinical degree preferred (MSN, PharmD, MD). Juris Doctorate with business and healthcare experience also acceptable.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of ten years' experience in Hospital operations or practice management, preferably in Hospital Based physician services and/or healthcare consulting.
  • Minimum of ten years of employee supervision at a director level or above. VP or C suite experience preferred.
  • Effective working knowledge of healthcare systems management, hospital management, healthcare financial management, hospital-based physician practice accounting and third-party reimbursement issues, patient flow, and clinical operations.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, systems and objectives.
  • Knowledge of health care administration systems.
  • Knowledge of hospital-based physician services.
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary team development.
  • Ability and experience in developing and crisply delivering Senior Executive presentations
  • Extensive understanding of HCA financial reporting, contracting and clinical systems with a track record of modifying these systems to support the PSA initiatives
