What You Will Do
This position reports directly to the Division Leader for the Pit Technologies Division (PT) and is responsible for the Metal Production Group (PT-1). PT Division is responsible for providing manufacturing operations at TA-55 within the Associate Level Directorate Weapons Production (ALDWP). The Manufacturing Manager 4 (Group Leader) position provides leadership and management for a group of approximately 85 personnel, including technicians, R&D engineers, technologists, floor supervisors, and first line managers that are responsible for plutonium metal purification operations in support of pit production, experimental science campaigns, and other national security missions. The selected applicant will provide technical leadership and management of PT-1 tactical and strategic operations in support of meeting ALDWP objectives. The selected applicant will work with stakeholders across LANL, partner nuclear weapons complex laboratories, and internationally to advance production eciency, technical excellence, and scientific excellence of the Pit Technologies Division.

DOE Order 426.2: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related science, and 4 years of nuclear experience. Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may fulfill 3 of the 4 years of nuclear experience on a one-for-one time basis.
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in executing programmatic work in compliance with nuclear facility requirements and the authorization basis specified under 10 CFR 830 Nuclear Safety Management and 10 CFR 835 Occupational Radiation Protection.
- Experience executing work in compliance with DOE O 474.2 Nuclear Material and Accountability.
- Extensive working knowledge of the technical and operational discipline of Conduct of Operations DOE O 422.1.
- Record of technical leadership and management of a production organization including experience in technical decision making, planning, and goal setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in stang, performance and salary management, conflict resolution, and managing performance.
- Record of effective personnel motivation and development including mentoring, team building, and employee development.
- Demonstrated record of promoting teamwork, consensus building, mentoring, and motivating peers and subordinates and working across division lines with other organizations.
- In-depth knowledge of work package development and execution, identification of resource requirements and development of resource loaded schedules and financial stewardship.
- Record of effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications.
- In-depth knowledge of and proven ability in implementing, enforcing, and providing guidance for Laboratory objectives and other statements of policy, practice, and/or procedure.
Desired Qualifications:
- An advanced degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, or other manufacturing-related discipline.
- Related experience and expertise in actinide pyrochemistry/recovery, metallurgy, and/or nuclear manufacturing, engineering, and science.
- Related expertise and accomplishment in the area of actinide Research and Development.
- Demonstrated experience interacting with DOE/NNSA.
- Demonstrated application of lean manufacturing principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Program delivery working in high hazard operations, while in compliance with a modern safety authorization basis, with demonstrated compliance with conduct of operations.
- Manufacturing experience in a management role.
- Experience and an understanding in production controls involving production planning and scheduling.
