A full-time Data Science Specialist position is available in the Buetow lab in the Center for Evolution and Medicine at Arizona State University starting September 1, 2024. The Buetow lab studies human genetics and genomics and leverages computational tools to understand complex traits such as cancer, liver disease, and obesity.

Desired Qualifications
- Preference for candidates with PhD in Genetics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
- Preference is given to those with strong expertise and experience in NGS and multi-omics data analysis (RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq, ChIP-Seq, metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics), and statistical learning (supervised and unsupervised).
- Proficiency in programming with R, Unix/Linux, and/or Python, MATLAB, and experience with bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g. NCBI, Ensembl, UCSC Genome Browser) are highly desired.
- Experience conducting systems biological analyses that integrate 'omics datasets, molecular pathways, and genetic data to generate specific testable hypotheses
- Experience in human genetics including analysis and interpretation of rare and common variation

- Demonstrated knowledge of the use of bioinformatics computations in high-performance computing environments, including open-source bioinformatics software and pipelines to support diverse bioinformatics analyses.
- Fluency in data science methods, including clustering, dimensional reduction and basic machine learning concepts
- Evidence of being self-motivated, work independently or as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills
- Experience in R or Python, as well as Unix/Linux shell scripting
- Evidence of statistical, mathematical, and analytical skills
