POSITION SUMMARY
The Laboratory Outreach Manager is responsible for cultivating a teamwork environment among staff that is patient-centered and focuses on providing a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring the delivery of compassionate care, acceptable turn-around-time and accurate patient results.
Essential Functions:
Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Exhibits and adheres to WMC's Standards of Performance in all areas of job duties and responsibilities.
Participates in hospital initiatives and in departmental goals set by the Laboratory Director and staff.
Interacts professionally with management, laboratory personnel, physicians, hospital personnel, patients and customers to provide optimal patient care.
Works well with other laboratory employees to maintain an environment of teamwork.
Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adheres OSHA and TOSHA safety regulations
Maintains working knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures.
Maintains current knowledge and adheres to hospital policies and state, federal and other regulatory requirements
Responsible for the training oversight of new non-technical employees and students as assigned.
Manages the operational functions of designated laboratory areas on a daily basis and handles human resource issues as requested by the laboratory director.
Facilitates process improvement projects and serves on teams/committees as needed.
Responsible for laboratory outreach business which includes obtaining new outpatient laboratory business and regular visits/phone calls to current clients. Responsible for working with nursing home director of nursing and physician office practice managers to provide optimal laboratory services and follows through with outpatient complaints.
Responsible for adherence to laboratory compliance guidelines and provides on-going education to laboratory staff regarding laboratory compliance.
Works with coordinators in assigned areas to maintain proper staffing and effective operations.
Serves as a mentor and coach to laboratory staff.
Other duties as needed/assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education / Training:
BS or AS degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent. BS preferred.
Valid State of Tennessee Medical Technologist/Technician license
State of Tennessee Supervisor's license preferred or obtained within three years
Workplace Experience:
Four (4) years of laboratory experience
Management experience preferred
Meditech experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical laboratory science
Knowledge of laboratory rules, regulations and compliance regulations
Strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations
Ability to work independently, be attentive to detail and maintain a positive attitude
Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial and legal information
Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner with minimal supervision
Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner
Strong computer skills -Excel, Word, Powerpoint
Physical and Environment Requirements:
Exposure to blood and body fluids, infectious and contagious diseases, chemicals.
Ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing.
Ability to perform multi-functional tasks.
Ability to read computer screen, distinguish color, hear phone and conduct interpersonal communications
Ability to learn, reason and perform mathematical calculations related to job.
Ability to use critical thinking skills.
Requires light to moderate work with 40 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.
Manual dexterity and mobility in both hands; exposed to repetitive motion.
Flexibility to shift schedule, work extra hours as needed

Interviews potential candidates and documents interview notes
Turns in accurate meaningful audits
On time - by 10th of month
Audits are organized and legible
Feedback (PI) is handled in a timely manner
Audits showing unacceptable practice are addressed and an improvement plan is implemented and documented
Serves as a mentor to staff and shows leadership:
360 Feedback tool given to 5 anonymous employees (scores averaged)
Participates in the orientation and skill development of new team members
Active participant with new employees
Provides regular feedback during orientation process
Ensures training and orientation is complete
Participates in nursing orientation when needed
Keeps up to date with all regulatory guidelines and assures laboratory compliance with those guidelines including Laboratory Compliance and Medical Necessity.
Follows LEAN guidelines and turns in process improvement projects (A3/5S, etc.) for areas
Follows Hospital and Laboratory Policies on the use of Electronic Devices:
Cell phones kept on vibrate
Phones/Electronic/Headphones devices used during break/meal times only
Does not use personal phones in patient care areas
Uses the hospital internet for work purposes only
Adheres to WMC Lab Attendance policy
Tardies/Absences kept to a minimum
Submits requests for PTO within policy guidelines
Does not take extended lunches
Takes appropriate breaks as dictated by workload
Manages efficient areas:
Ensures all staff are following safety standards
Maintains accountability for financial budget (does not overstaff; keeps OT to a minimum)
Effectively evaluates daily staffing and flexes staff as needed
Oversees schedule and assures that API is correct
Makes good use of time
Keeps procedures up to date
Communicates procedure changes to staff
Suggests and implements new ideas
Provides effective communication
Communicates problems/issues/concerns to laboratory staff
Communicates testing delays to appropriate personnel
