Job Summary

As a technical leader in clinical applications, applies advanced professional concepts and extensive industry knowledge to lead and / or work on medium to large projects of broad scope and complexity. May be recognized expert of an area of focus of business in clinical applications.

The APeX Application Analyst will primarily be responsible for developing, supporting, and maintaining Epic's Professional Billing and Claims applications with an emphasis on Dental Billing. They work under the direction of the Team Lead and/or Manager to configure, build & install the application. They coordinate all issues that arise for their application area. Key operational activities include primary responsibility to analyze workflows and understand policies, procedures, and constraints of the clinical or business operations supported by the application. In-depth and precise investigation and documentation of operational specifications and application functionality is required. Key technical activities include the analysis of new releases to determine how the workflow should be modified, building and populating databases and tables during initial system configuration, and conducting system testing, and conversion data validation.

The application analyst develops and documents internal procedures and establishes change control processes for the application.
  • Develops/design advance/complex programs and guides their develop with members of a cross functional team
  • Works independently and in consultation with team lead and/or manager
  • Application expertise to define "integrated" system design requirements and develop/implement complex application components
  • Able to negotiate scope/approach with team, end users and IT infrastructure partners
  • Principal contact for resolution of complex integrated issues and/or solutions
  • Proficient with Professional Billing Claims build
  • Must have certification and strong experience with the Epic Professional Billing application.
  • Claims certification is not required but preferred.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $127,932 - $210,679 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
  • 5 - 7 years related clinical applications experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Resolute Professional Billing Administration Epic certification
  • Broadly encompassing or highly In-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s). Knowledge of operations, systems and functions, including planning, design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
  • Ability to apply advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Advanced interpersonal communication skills to effectively train, support, and collaborate productively with clinical users and key stakeholders at all professional and technical levels.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
  • Advanced written and verbal communications skills, to convey highly-technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical users and staff in a specific, clear, and concise manner.
  • Advanced analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, plan and implement testing systems, collect and analyze performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses for management use.
  • Advanced ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, and to work collaboratively with key personnel and management, providing guidance and recommendations on systems, improvements, upgrades, and industry advances and trends.
  • Ability to work with senior staff and managers, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.

Department Description

Clinical Systems and Health Informatics are responsible for all aspects of the clinical and business software applications of UCSF Health hospitals, practices, affiliates, and community partners. This includes the Electronic Health Record (APeX), which supports the clinical, revenue cycle, and clinical operational functions of the health system and its affiliates, and approximately 95 other software applications involved in patient care and operations.
