What You Will Do

The Associate Laboratory Directorate, Plutonium Infrastructure (ALDPI), at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) manages the execution of major capital projects related to infrastructure required to meet plutonium pit production deliverables. This is an opportunity for an exceptional project professional that will be part of a subproject team to ensure execution of the new Plutonium Infrastructure Directorate capital construction project portfolio. The Directorate is at the center of execution of capital projects in and around the Los Alamos National Laboratory's plutonium pit production facilities for U.S. nuclear weapons and is focused on sustaining the current stockpile; providing life extensions of the stockpile; and helping to ensure the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear deterrent. Reporting to a Project-Program Director or Manager of Projects under the Senior Director for Line-Item Projects (LI-PROJ) this position is critically important to the safe and efficient implementation of programmatic elements within LI-PROJ. Program Manager 2 (non-technical) $83,900 - $136,600

The Program Manager will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining a high-level awareness of the current and upcoming initiatives, projects, and requirements within the LI-PROJ Portfolio.
  • Maintaining tracking mechanisms associated with LI-PROJ procurements to ensure status is current and complete.
  • Assisting Work Package Managers to track charges and initiate corrective actions to align with proper charging expectations.
  • Experience interacting, communicating and negotiating with management to include immediate organizational management and/or customer base management.
  • Experience working with DOE/NNSA or other Government policies, procedures or requirements and their flow-down into local procedures or policies.
  • Assisting in the conduct of assessments and surveillances to ensure compliance to requirements, contracts, and procedures.
  • Participates in special assignments and administrative studies as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience managing or administering medium to large projects or programs including developing and executing on scope, schedule, and budget. Has a strong business acumen and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong experience in developing and nurturing effective internal and external customer relationships.
  • Must be an inquisitive and persistent self-starter with the ability to work independently. Must be a quick learner with the ability to interact intelligently with both technical and non-technical audiences. Highly adaptable and flexible. Ability to handle ambiguity and quickly adjust to shifting/competing priorities while organizing project tasks to successfully complete and in alignment with project priorities established by management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with proven experience in strategies to motivate others to complete their assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills to include the preparation and delivery of presentations, reports, and trainings.
  • Experience working with policies and procedures in a highly regulated environment.
  • High level of critical thinking skills demonstrated problem solving skills, with experience in interpreting and analyzing different kinds of data and information and understanding it's potential relationship or impact on a program.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, building roadmaps and the ability to integrate complex program/project work with other priorities and commitments.


Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation (if no Bachelor's Degree then a minimum of 13 years of related experience).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ALDPI and LI-PROJ mission and work scope.
  • Experience working with NNSA/DOE (or similar) oversight, policies and expectations and integrating overarching policies or requirements into local policy/procedures.
  • Existing DOE Q Clearance

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
