Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Regional Health, Safety and Environment Manager who is responsible for the overall health and safety activities at the Brea facility, while leading a team of HSE Coordinators located at three different facilities. The Regional HSE Manager oversees the health and safety program at all facilities to ensure alignment with policies and procedures. The Regional HSE Manager provides strategic guidance while ensuring compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards.

In addition, this position is responsible for recruiting, selection, training, development and supervision of staff, providing guidance and support.

Job Accountabilities:
  • Leads the Health, Safety and Environment Team, while managing the environmental, industrial, health and safety regulation compliance for all facilities
  • Oversees the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health and safety policies
  • Collaborates with other business units to implement the Health, Safety and Environment programs, policies and services
  • Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist
  • Oversees hazardous waste disposal and monitors waste handling
  • Develops and oversees organization wide training programs for employees in areas of compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety
  • Defines and ensures the development of safety procedures (e.g., chemical handling, hazardous waste disposal, ergonomic, injury prevention, process safety) used by staff
  • Leads and directs work for team of employees as defined by business needs
  • Manage staff selection, interviewing, selecting of qualified candidates, training and staff development to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations.
  • Responsible for hiring and terminating subordinate employees (or effectively recommending such decisions). Handling employee complaints and grievances; staff mentoring, coaching, counseling, disciplining employees; assigning work among employees; and providing for the safety and security of the employees.
  • Directing employees' work and establish and adjust hours of work as needed
  • Establishes priorities and workflow within the department; identifies root cause, conducts analysis and resolves issues with appropriate resources departments and/or action plans.
  • Provides staff with standards of performance, job responsibilities and job expectations.
  • Conducts staff meetings to ensure policies and procedures are adhered to and enforced, and when necessary, modified to address changing strategic objectives.
  • Maintain production records for use in supervision; appraising employees' productivity standards and efficiency for recommending promotions or other changes in status.
  • Ensures appropriate management of department staff, including timely completion of performance appraisals and corrective counseling, when appropriate.

Job Specifications:

Education: Requires a bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a High School Diploma/GED plus four (4) years relevant experience and appropriate certifications may be substituted for meeting educational requirements only.

Years' Experience: 5 years of relevant experience required

Skills:
  • Strong leadership and management skills to enable the creation of a highly capable and sustainable Health, Safety and Environment Team
  • Significant experience and knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets and hazardous waste disposal procedures, as well as industry safety regulations
  • Strong knowledge and experience in government laws/regulations regarding Health, Safety and Environment
  • Ability to Identify and resolve technical, operational and organizational problems
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence, while exercising sensitivity to the audience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management tools
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, oral communication, presentation and facilitator skills with the ability to negotiate, influence and interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization exercising sensitivity to the audience.
  • Possesses a positive professional image and a high level of ethical behavior in exercising consistent judgment, discretion and confidentiality in all interactions and matters of significance.

  • Ability to travel to all Applied Composites locations and/or client locations as needed
