Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Manager of Health Services to oversees the implementation of special education and gifted programming for the 2022-2023 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. As a Manager, you are required to:
  • Education Level: Bachelor's Degree, Master's degree preferred
  • Certification/Licensure: Registered Nurse Licensure required, Successful completion of School
    Nurse Certification through an accredited institution and Pupil Services Licensure through the
    ODE are also required
  • Minimum 5 years of school nurse experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years previous leadership experience in a healthcare setting
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Lead nurse must have a well-developed understanding of the provision or coordination of care
    for chronic diseases like diabetes, asthma, epilepsy and allergies; and contribute to,
    Health/Medical Plans, 504 plan and individualized education program (IEP) processes;
  • Provide training of other school staff on appropriate health and safety procedures related to
    health
  • Supervisory Experience Preferred

As a Manager, you will:
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal laws
  • Establish health procedures that guide health practice following public health recommendations
  • Revise policies and procedures to align with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and other governing bodies
  • Recommend and implement health service procedures for medical emergencies, referrals, communicable diseases and other health concerns
  • Provide consultation regarding district management plans that involve health and safety of student and staff members
  • Manage the pupil health and record system following the district and state record retention policy as well as student data privacy policy and FERPA
  • Direct dispensing of medications in the schools
  • Staff a school health office when appropriate based on staffing and student need
  • Work directly with students and families when appropriate regarding health concerns
  • Coordinate and support the Pandemic Preparedness team in the event of an emergency.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars, including IEP, (e.g. local/state health meetings, programs, 504, child studies) for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving skills/knowledge.
  • Provides training on a variety of health-related subjects (e.g. CPR, medical procedures, child abuse, health education, etc.) for the purpose of acting as a resource to students, teachers, and other school personnel.
  • Family concerns complaints and specific student issues as they arise.
  • Provides direct care in emergency situations, or when staffing levels have been adversely affected.
  • Plan and network with community partners to support student health
  • State mandated information and services, including immunization and vision and hearing reporting
  • Facilitate third party billing practices following HBS guidelines
  • Provide district wide approaches to promote health, positive school climate and reduce barriers to learn
  • Promote nursing services participation and duties on the special education teams
  • Recruit, interview and hire health services personnel
  • Plan, organize and implement orientation and training for health services staff
  • Establish staffing patterns, work schedules and work assignments
  • Establish procedures and performance expectations for department staff
  • Serve as a resource to staff and monitor daily health services activity
  • Implement systems of communication with health services staff
  • Manage Health services budget for district
  • Manage staffing according to student population and acuity
  • Coordinate purchasing of supplies, parts and equipment for the department
  • Promote district wellness programs
  • Liaison between Springfield City Schools and School Based Health Clinic Partners
  • Performs other duties as assigned

As a contracted employee, this position is assigned to work 234 days per year and 8 hours per day
