JOB SUMMARY

The Operations Manager is responsible for supervising all department operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Directly supervise and lead a team of operational staff, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure their performance meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Management responsibilities including, but not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity, and daily operations of multiple levels of staff and multiple functions/departments across matrix organization
  • Manage daily operational activities, including scheduling, task assignment, and resource allocation, to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.
  • Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational performance, analyze data to identify trends or areas for improvement, and report findings to management.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing cost-control measures as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements, implementing strategies to streamline workflows and eliminate waste.
  • Monitor and maintain quality standards for products or services, implementing corrective actions as needed to address deviations and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Work closely with the Quality team to assure method and SOP compliance
  • Monitor and manage facilities and equipment and keep both in sufficient working order
  • Utilize specialized laboratory equipment and instrumentation to process and analyze samples
  • Perform equipment and instrumentation set up
  • Accurately record observations and data and basic interpretation of data
  • Maintain the integrity of procedures and record professional activity for peer review
  • Monitor and address sample backlog issues
  • Maintains necessary supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting supply orders; verifying receipt; and maintaining an orderly storage system
  • Improve our product and delivery to our customers
  • Provides information by answering questions or inquiries from both internal and external customers
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies to maintain a safe and secure work environment for employees.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (highly preferred) or any related field such as Biology, Environmental Science, and Microbiology from a four-year college or university
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant industry and laboratory operations experience including management experience
  • Sound knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting
  • Experience in leadership and supervision is essential.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members, foster a positive work culture, and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve operations.
  • Proactive problem-solving orientation, with the ability to anticipate potential issues, develop contingency plans, and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate changing priorities, unexpected challenges, and evolving business needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keen attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring accuracy and quality in all aspects of operations.
  • Must display a positive and enthusiastic demeanor throughout the execution of all duties
  • May require some minimal travel
