Title: Lieutenant

Oversee daily operations and manage law enforcement personnel, ensuring the safety of school properties and the security of employees, students, and visitors. Direct criminal matter responses, supervise and advise officers, and handle administrative duties as necessary. Participate in leading the team, ensuring that operations run smoothly and that resources are used effectively. Participate in the development of policies and procedures and the management of the departmental budget.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical expertise to the department, working on issues that require an in-depth knowledge of the functional area.
  • Directly supervise and manage sergeants and non-sworn personnel, ensuring adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines, including uniform attire, radio procedure, vehicle maintenance, and public courtesy.
  • Oversee daily deployment of night personnel and coordinate officer assignments for special events while maintaining a law enforcement presence for executive protection at these functions.
  • Respond to critical incidents by determining where to direct activities, ensuring appropriate actions are taken in line with established protocols.
  • Monitor changes in procedures, policies, and regulations, inform staff accordingly, and provide technical expertise within the department.
  • Prepare documentation for operational needs such as work assignments for training or meetings with other agencies.
  • Maintain accurate records, including United Crime Reporting (UCR) classifications.
  • Review, sign off on, and approve reports and documents to ensure accuracy.
  • Conduct random field inspections to ensure compliance with departmental standards.
  • Manage new staff orientation programs along with ongoing training initiatives to ensure effective onboarding and staff development.
  • Facilitate communication through regular meetings and briefings and compile information effectively when communicating professionally with other law enforcement agencies as needed.
  • Provide guidance on issues requiring an in-depth knowledge of the functional area where problems may not be clearly defined, and utilize problem-solving skills as necessary.
  • Keep the Chief informed of incidents through timely updates via text messages or emails.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Science, or a closely related area with 7 - 9 years of related and/or supervisory experience.
  • Experience should include a minimum of 8 years of sworn law enforcement experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Passing score on Georgia Police Officers Standard and Training Annual Firearms Qualification.
