Summary

The office of the Chief Operating Officer seeks a highly motivated and competent professional for a Senior Financial Analyst role for the Texas Children's Hospital Operating Unit within Baylor College of Medicine. The role involves critical responsibilities such as budget planning, tracking salary distributions, and managing non-personnel expenditures. As a liaison between BCM and TCH administrative leadership, the position ensures financial transparency and accountability. Developing guidelines and training materials for TCH-based employees to adhere to BCM policies is also an important responsibility.

The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, be regarded as a team player, have strong and proven organizational skills. Previous work experience in an academic medicine environment is a bonus.

This position is eligible to work hybrid within the Greater Houston, TX area.

Job Duties

Financial Analysis and Budgeting
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis and budget forecasting.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Maintain the cost center and accounting structure for the TCH operating unit.
  • Review and approve financial entries and transactions, including journal entries and purchase orders. Track and analyze expenses and financial accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Analyze and report on current financial status, including reviewing financial statements and reports.
  • Conduct thorough research of historical financial data to inform decision-making. Compare anticipated and actual results to identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain financial policies to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of financial information.


Grant Administration
  • May assist with pre-and post-award grant activities, ensuring compliance and proper fund utilization.
  • Ensure that TCH-based research effort is allocated promptly per the grant budget proposals to minimize the loss of research funding for TCH.


Stakeholder Management
  • Actively communicate with BCM Finance and TCH financial functions to keep abreast of changes in policies and procedures and plan to adapt these changes to TCH-based staff and faculty.
  • Develop training materials for TCH-based employees to adhere to BCM policies and practices. Provide ongoing support for TCH-based users to encourage their adoption of new BCM systems. Send helpful feedback from end users to BCM for improvement.
  • Act as a purchasing/disbursement liaison for the TCH-based acquisition of goods and services, employee reimbursement, purchasing and travel card usage and reconciliation, and contract routing. Will identify transactions for executive approval for expenditures made outside of BCM policies.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, SAP, Concur
  • Hands-on experience with financial software
  • Expertise in MS Excel, including advanced formulas and spreadsheet creation
  • Knowledge of Power BI
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Communications and writing experience
  • Experience working in an academic medicine environment
