Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the Superintendent include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide leadership in all areas of teaching and learning: curriculum, data analysis and professional development.
- Possess a solid understanding of the Washington State Learning Standards, STEAM initiatives, and a belief in a creating a climate fostering rigor, responsibility, and relationships.
- Maintain and reinforce effective communications and collaboration throughout the District, within the Waitsburg community, and neighboring school districts.
- Work with the Board to identify and prioritize policies for overall governance.
- Responsible for a system of supervision and evaluations for all staff designed to meet the goals of the school district.
- Lead, guide and direct every member of the instruction and support services teams in moving forward with the Waitsburg mission statement and our "One of a Kind" values.
- Manage and organize all resources available to the District in the best interests of the students and the school system.
Job Duties Separated by Position: Superintendent:
- Public face of the Waitsburg School District
- Motivate and Inspire
- Establish and maintain liaison with other school districts working with stakeholders, patrons and taxpayers to design and implement a shared vision for quality education in our community
- Build and foster relationships between staff and community
- Develop daily schedules that enhance the student learning environment while maximizing teacher resources
- Support staff and conduct observations/evaluations.
- Serve as a liaison between parent/student/teacher
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Master's Degree and possess a Washington State Principal's Certificate. If the successful applicant does not have a Superintendent's Certificate, the District will provide support for its completion.
- Minimum of 10 years in education preferred.
- Understanding of Washington State Learning Standards and Common Core State Standards.
- Trained in Teacher Evaluation Process (TPEP), with a working knowledge of Danielson Framework preferred.
- Instructional leader who has prior experience working with staff to implement new curriculum, while staying abreast of best practices.
- Instructional leader who has a successful track record of integrating technology into the curriculum.
- Approachable, accessible, and flexible to students, parents, and all staff members.
- Sensitivity and respect when working with students and parents of all cultures.
- Willingness to continue forward with the work that has been started.
- A proven record of successful teaching and administrative experience in a public-school district, preferably in a rural community.
- Highly visible in the school and community; actively participates in school and community activities.
- Successful administrative experience in a school district or educational agency
- Strong and open leadership style with unquestionable integrity, honesty, and diplomacy
- An open and accessible leadership style that demonstrates the interpersonal skills necessary to build strong relationships with a diverse student body, community, and staff.
- A passion for student achievement and placing students first in all decisions.
- Demonstrate the ability to deal with an ever-widening scope of issues, including diversity, emerging research findings, technology, community relations, and competition from charter non-public schools.
- Comfortable in front of small and large groups.
- Outstanding communication skills, including intentional listening.
- Focus on fostering teamwork across school and district buildings.
- Demonstrated management within an educational setting, based on sound practices and the ability to successfully deal with difficult personnel issues.
- Strong, proactive leadership in developing and maintaining a wide range of programs and resources that are essential to a small district.
- Preferred residence within Waitsburg School District boundaries. School residence is available to candidate and family, if desired.
- Knowledge of state school law and school finance.
- Sound financial management skills, with the ability to effectively communicate fiscal issues to the Board, staff, and community
- An understanding of and respect for the culture of a small school and community
- Experience in collective bargaining and the ability to implement evaluation procedures for teachers and staff under state requirements
