Job Responsibilities
The job responsibilities of the Environmental and Health Safety Manager are:
- Manage all OSHA safety programs and train all personnel for all farms with the following goals:
- Integration of programs at all facilities as much as possible (there will be some site specific items).
- Decrease accidents and DART rates.
- Work to certify and maintain certification of all farms in the SHARP program.
- Maintains all Safety Data Sheet files and records
- Informs in verbally and/or in writing the VP of Ops or General/Site Manager of any potential safety and health problems in the workplace.
- Completes safety checks at all facilities according to required standards.
- Manages annual Fit testing for respirator program.
- Works with functional leaders regarding recommendations for safety equipment orders and disperses safety equipment that is used in various departments.
- Development of any new required safety programs.
- Stays current with safety regulations and makes changes to company programs as necessary
- Manages interactions with OSHA and competes OSHA reporting.
- Serves as the chairperson of the Safety Advisory Committee, and schedules and leads regular Safety Committee meetings.
- Acts as a First Responder and leads response efforts during emergency situations.
- Investigates all employee accidents and near-misses at each facility.
- Responsible for providing weekly safety talk topics to site and department managers
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) program.
- Oversees the Safety Coordinator at each facility. Safety Coordinator is a role in addition to their regular duties.
- Conduct fire extinguisher inspections on a monthly/annual basis.
- Ensures safety training is conducted in accordance with company policies and government regulations, and keeps training materials current.
- Monitors safety requirements with all outside contractors that work on our farms
- Assist with facility audits and inspections
- Maintain records, checklists and test results as required.
- Ensure team member compliance with all regulatory, customer and company requirements.
- Manages compliance with CDL and DOT requirements/training. Assists with audits.
- Assist with Biosecurity Protocol
- Other projects and duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in managing through influence
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Learning Management Systems.
- Knowledge of state, federal, DOT, CDL, and OSHA requirements.
- Strong understanding of safety, health and welfare
- Skilled in training and development
- CDL Class A driver's license or be willing and able to obtain one is a plus
- Self-confident leader
- Effective at working independently
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health or Environmental Safety and/or a CSM (Certified Safety Manager) Certificate preferred. Minimally 5+ years direct experience and the ability to obtain CSM Certification within 6 months of hire date.
- Certified CPR trainer or willing to get certified within 3 months of hire date.
- Experienced first responder
- EMT is a plus

- Excessive noise levels associated with a processing plant and machinery
