What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Learning Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Utilities and Infrastructure Division is seeking a Learning Specialist that will assist with the training functions for the division. The Utilities & Infrastructure (UI) Division is responsible for maintaining and operating all of the Laboratory's utility systems including electric, gas, sewer, steam, and water. In addition, UI maintains and manages all of the open space on site, including roads and grounds, and the Laboratory's Sustainability Program. The successful candidate will provide training leadership and overall management of the training needs for the division. The selected candidate will report to the Operations Support & Improvement group leader and will have multiple responsibilities including working closely with operations support personnel, administrative assistants, and personnel deployed to UI to provide excellent support to the division.

Learning Specialist 2 ($64,400-$102,300)
This position will develop training products using a systematic approach to ensure the worker can perform assigned tasks in the Laboratory's nuclear and high-hazard facilities safely and will also document decisions for sustainability and potential program assessment. The selected candidate will work with higher level training staff and to provide oversight and instruction in the maintenance of the established training and qualification program and in the development of new training products. This position is deployed to Utilities and Infrastructure from the Readiness and Training Group.
Learning Specialist 3 ($77,300-$126,000)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level this position will represent the training and qualification program and consult stakeholders as a training program owner and represent the program at a decision-maker/expert level.


What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Expertise: Understanding of the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and tools used in the development and implementation of formal training programs. Familiarity with training drivers/requirements for nuclear facilities and/or development in a compliance based environment.

Performance: Experience evaluating requirements, performing analysis, developing individual training products, implementing training and assisting with evaluation methods. Experience utilizing a learning management system to effectively implement training programs. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a complex, fast-paced work environment.

Accountability: Experience working with confidential or proprietary information, classified documents or sensitive information, including PII training records. Sound understanding of safety and security requirements to individual responsibility and as applicable to training activities.

Communication & Customer Service: Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written and verbal communication. Ability to transfer knowledge effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel. Proven skill set using in communication to provide high-level customer service in a largely telework environment.

Additional Job Requirements for Learning Specialist 3:

Strong use of training drivers/requirements for nuclear facilities and/or development in a compliance based environment.

Performance: Significant experience evaluating requirements, performing analysis, developing individual training products, implementing training and assisting with evaluation methods. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a complex, fast-paced work environment.

Communication & Customer Service: Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written and verbal communication with all stakeholder levels, e.g., Facility Operator to Facility Operations Director.

Education/Experience Learning Specialist 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience Learning Specialist 3: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Qualified in the Laboratory's Training Staff Qualification Program (TSQP).
  • Familiar with DOE O 426.2 or equivalent and the Laboratory's P781 series documents.
  • Expertise in nuclear facility-related subject matter or highly regulated training environment.
  • DOE Q-clearance is highly desired.
  • Learning Management System (LMS) experience.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
