GENERAL SUMMARY
CCD's dental hygiene program is designed to create competent, ethical, and confident dental health care practitioners in an innovative, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. In a context that purposefully embraces faculty empowerment and an organizational heritage for student learning and program excellence, the Director of Dental Hygiene, in cooperation with dental hygiene faculty and staff, is the academic leader responsible for program operation, accreditation, community outreach and maintenance of internal and external partnerships.
The Director of Dental Hygiene is also responsible for the following as it pertains to the dental hygiene program: policy, budgeting and planning, learning and student services effectiveness, curriculum, staff and faculty development, personnel administration, building oversight, clinic oversight, quality assurance and acquisition of instructional technology. The Director of Dental Hygiene serves as member of the health science chair team and provides energetic and inclusive leadership and vision sufficient to fulfill the College's commitment to develop and sustain Dental Hygiene excellence.
The Director of Dental Hygiene programs is a full-time administrative position and will be eligible for all benefits associated with a full time, 12-month position.

Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Provide overall supervision and direction for the dental hygiene programs including the Associate of Applied Science and Bachelor of applied Science degrees.
- Provide overall supervision and direction for the dental hygiene community clinic and dental hygiene educational facilities.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard full-and part-time faculty and staff for the program.
- Approve and coordinate faculty assignments within guidelines set forth by CCD and CODA and determine the need for additional Faculty release time for administrative duties.
- Ensure CTE credentials for all faculty in the program.
- Conduct performance reviews of faculty; participate in faculty promotions, and provide recommendations for personnel actions, as necessary.
- Ensure professional development of dental hygiene faculty.
- Maintain accurate and complete student and program records and reports.
- Serve on appropriate college committees as assigned.
- Teach the assigned course load. This can include didactic, clinical, and lab courses.
- In cooperation with program faculty, Evaluate, review, and recommend improvements and enhancements to ensure consistency and quality of the program and courses that lead to CODA accreditation.
- Maintain program quality such that students pass the NBDHE, clinical board examinations, Colorado jurisprudence examination at rates above the state and national averages.
- Serve as chairperson for regularly scheduled curriculum management meetings.
- Annually review and recommend for approval contractual agreements with each clinical facility
- Assist faculty and clinic operations manager in maintaining an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment and to insure maintenance of the equipment.
- Participate in the budget planning process for and administering the Nursing Education Program budget.
- Oversee at least two advisory committee meetings throughout each academic year
- Assume all other duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Science.
- Implement the rules and regulations of the Commission on Dental Accreditation, CCD, and Colorado Community College System, complete and submit the required reports
- Oversee the planning process and the site visits for CODA accreditation, prepare and publish self-study required for the CODA site visit.
- Report to CODA, any major changes on a timely basis.
- Coordinate and deliver an effective student recruitment program that maintains program enrollment at specified levels.
- Oversee the admission process to the dental hygiene program;
- Coordinate and/or serve as student advisor.
- Participate in advising sessions/open houses per semester.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: (Required/Minimum)
- The Director will be a licensed RDH with a master's degree (or in progress) or DDS that has graduated from an accredited college or university supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of full time didactic and clinical instruction experience. Most hold a current RDH or DDS license in the state of Colorado as well as certificates in the administration of local anesthesia and nitrous oxide, lasers, and SDF.
- Eligible for Colorado CTE credential
Experience: (Required/Minimum)
- Evidence of demonstrated leadership in a diverse, collaborative, and innovative setting with community college experience is preferred.
- Experience with CODA accreditation process is preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: (Required/Minimum)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Skill in program budget preparation and fiscal management. Ability to plan, organize, implement, evaluate and modify instructional and administrative support needs related to the dental hygiene program. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Proficient in the use of instructional and institutional technology. Proven ability to hire, supervise and terminate faculty and staff. Ability to develop, implement, integrate and evaluate dental hygiene curriculum.
