GENERAL SUMMARY:

Assists with the coordination, management, and preparation of the following areas of general accounting: annual capital and operating budget, pro forma analyses, service line profitability reporting, monthly management reporting, department productivity, benchmark comparisons, and fixed assets. Supports the Assistant Controller in month-end and year-end close procedures, annual consolidated audits, and ensuring organizational compliance with accounting best practices and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Provides technical expertise, guidance, and coaching/mentorship to lower level staff, as well as needed training and onboarding of staff. Provides input on performance evaluations, and the hiring of new staff.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Assists with the coordination, management, and preparation of general accounting functions to ensure that appropriate control procedures are followed and accounting transactions are properly recorded and reported.

3. * Assists with overseeing the performance of work related to non-patient accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets and cash ledger.

4. *Prepares and assists with reviews of individual and consolidated monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including detailed reviews and analysis for major balance sheet and income statement accounts for all entities within Bryan Health System.

5. Supports the Assistant Controller with the annual consolidated audit of Bryan Health with independent auditors.

6. *Supports the Assistant Controller with maintaining the Bryan Health's general ledger, accounting, and reporting system.

7. Assists in coordinating and managing computer software installation and upgrade projects for areas of responsibility.

8. Assists with regulatory reporting as applicable.

9. *Assists in completing annual budget preparation process.

10. Performs analysis of financial information to ensure accurate and timely processing per departmental and regulatory standards.

11. *Prepares and assists with reviews on ad-hoc pro forma financial statements on new business ventures.

12. Assesses user needs and makes necessary improvements as they related to general accounting functions within accepted standards.

13. Understands, utilizes, and educates others regarding accepted accounting theory and practice to prepare and interpret a broad range of financial reports used by internal managers and the Board of Trustees.

14. *Provides technical expertise, coaching, and training to lower level staff.

15. Assists and advises departments in the development of financial plans, forecasts, and annual budgets for all entities within Bryan Health.

16. *Researches authoritative literature for proper treatment of accounting topics; assists in setting general accounting policies and procedures.

17. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education inservices, reading industry related periodicals/literature, and seeking ongoing development opportunities.

18. *Provides input into performance evaluations and hiring of staff.

19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Advanced knowledge of the principles and theories of accounting and auditing.

2. Advanced knowledge of quality improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.

3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

4. Knowledge of customer service philosophies and practices.

5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical and ancillary departmental personnel and with other department managers.

6. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

7. Ability to analyze problems, identify priorities and implement effective work strategies.

8. Ability to work effectively with frequent deadlines and conflicting priorities.

9. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

10. Ability to interpret regulations and make decisions in accordance with established precedent or guidelines.

11. Ability to schedule and maintain daily and monthly routines, assign personnel and maintain integrity of records.

12. Ability to compile and synthesize data and information into verbal and written reports.

13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required. Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or certified public accountant (CPA) preferred. Minimum of five (5) years experience in a professional accounting capacity required. Prior experience leading a team.
