Job Description
The University of Missouri is pleased to announce an opening for a Non-Tenure Track Assistant Research Professor position with a working title of Director - Thomas E. Phillips Light Microscopy Facility. This position directs the daily operations and strategic planning of the Thomas E. Phillips Light Microscopy Facility, an advanced light microscopy core (ALMC), a shared campus resource. The core is an invaluable resource for light microscopy, immunocytochemistry and general scientific image analysis and processing.
The ALMC's equipment and services consist of confocal, super-resolution, digital light-sheet and widefield microscopes, laser capture microdissection, image analysis and processing and sample preparation. The Core also boasts an onsite supply center stocked with fluorescent secondary antibodies and markers. Consumables for laser capture microdissection are also available.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage the daily operations of the ALMC, including oversight of all projects and infrastructure, the purchase, utilization, and upkeep of all equipment.
Hire, train, and manage all ALMC employees.
Train MU investigators in the proper use of microscopes and imaging equipment; troubleshoot experimental and technical problems to help optimize techniques and improve understanding of imaging-related questions.
Advise clients on experimental design, protocols, and sample preparations.
Provide post-acquisition image processing and analysis and assist with data interpretation.
Establish and implement the ALMC's business plan, policies, and procedures.
Develop informational, educational, and marketing materials to communicate information to ALMC stakeholders and potential customers.
Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures to comply with institution and other applicable regulations (e.g., biohazard material handling, IBC Protocols).
Maintain and generate reports and ALMC-use statistics, provide budget analysis as requested.
Participate in grant proposal development and manuscript writing.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for this position include a Mater's degree plus 5 years of experience in microscopy by the time of application.
Candidates will be evaluated on:
Extent of experience in microscopy application in biology including experiment design, execution and analysis
Previous experience working in a multiuser research core facility
Anticipated Hiring Range
Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Appointment is ranked, non-regular, twelve-month appointment.
