Role Summary:

The Manager of Sales Support is responsible for developing, managing and executing the day to day sales support activities reporting to the Senior Manager of Sales Process. The Manager will primarily lead the activities for all Key Account contracts under their team's purview, daily rate requests, and other sales administrative functions. The Manager will directly oversee the Supervisor of Sales Support and other key Sales Support team members.

The Sales Support Manager is responsible for identifying areas for his or her sales support staff's development and providing developmental opportunities for career growth and increased performance results. These programs are intended to ensure regional support team is enhancing the outside sales group's selling productivity

Leadership and Management Competencies

  • Innovative thinking to identify sales process improvement opportunities for the whole NA Sales Division

  • Accountability for ensuring the support team is actively engaged in the regional business goals and supporting the team through the most efficient manner possible.

Sales Support Role and Task Fulfillment
  • Lead and manage the sales support team with an aim at achieving corporate business/marketing plans and regional business objectives under the guidance of the Senior Manager of Sales Process
  • Support the outside sales force's Implementation and management of business development activities in line with the target account pipeline and achieve regional account portfolio expansion goals established by Marketing / SYM
  • Meet and exceed productivity goals involving support activates as set by RHQ sales management.
  • Identify his or her own team's individual expected account performance, measure, monitor and hold sales support individuals accountable to accomplish same

Developing Staff
  • Direct, develop, mentor and coach his or her sales support team to ensure ongoing sales related skills and sales service levels are being enhanced
  • Identify and provide opportunities for sales supports' individualized career development

Direct and Manage Horizontally, Vertically
  • Demonstrate effective relationships with other internal stakeholders to ensure a collaborative team, cross-functional level, performs to attain regional sales plan (i.e.--Operations, Pricing, Customer Service, other Sales Regions, Accounting)
  • Sponsor and co-partner with Human Resources for sales development to ensure his or her sales staff has effective negotiations, persuasion and closing skills including business acumen

  • Track record of establishing goals and metrics for his or her sales support team to measure the ability of staff in meeting/exceeding goals/ targets
  • Proven ability to lead and drive his or her sales support team process performance
  • Skilled in motivating his or her sales support team with clear plan of development and growth for staff

Required Minimum Years Experience:

5+ years of experience in container shipping or logistics sectors; 3+ years of supervisory experience

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree Preferred
