Position Highlights:
- The Core Facility Staff Scientist oversees the Total Cancer Care and Investigator Initiated Trial laboratories of the Tissue Core department at Moffitt Cancer Center.
- This position is a leader in biological acquisition, biorepository, and processing practices and services for the research community.
- As a leader, the Staff Scientist is active in identifying future direction and needs for the laboratories. They set goals, priorities, and facilitate best practices to ensure delivery of high-quality services.

- Experience in independent management of the full development of the lifecycle of a complex application or process
- Working knowledge of technical scientific platforms being supporting
Responsibilities:
- The Staff Scientist will be responsible for the fiscal status of the laboratories through conscientious budgeting, accurate reimbursement of services, and development of chargebacks.
- This position is required to ensure timely submission, completion, and communication of project progress with timely data related reports.
- The Staff Scientist is primarily responsible for independent experimental design, development and implementation of core technologies via acting independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments or lines of service.
- Supports end users through all phases of Core Facility engagement from the initial definition of project requirements, facilitating the alignment of core resources with project needs, providing communication pipeline during the life of the project with updates on status and progress, provides notice of project completion.
- Ensures that all commitments are met.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent in related Life Science field with at least 12 years' experience in science related experience (including at least 5 years of direct experience specific to hiring CORE (OR) Master's degree and at least 5 years of experience specific to hiring CORE (OR) PhD and at least 3 years experience specific to hiring CORE.
- Must be a technical expert in core specific technologies and instrumentation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative research relationships with others (core members, faculty and staff) and to contribute to ongoing research projects requiring core facility support.
- Self-starter and self-motivated.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.
Preferred Required Experience
- Master's degree. Preferable in field of Science or equivalent in related Life Science field.
- Experience in an academic environment preferred. However, equivalent industry experience is acceptable.
- Experience in biorepository operations and/or quality management.
- CAP biorepository inspector certification would be a plus.
