PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Senior Manager Asset Protection and Safety provides guidance to all employees in the areas of Asset Protection, Safety, Procedure Compliance, Audit Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, and Physical Security.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the Vice President of Risk and Compliance with considerable latitude for independent decision making in accordance with company policy and guidelines.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Directly supervises Asset Protection Investigators and Security Operations Manager. Provides functional oversight and direction for all Asset Protection and Safety Department employees and operations, as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops partnerships within the Asset Protection and Safety Department and with all employees to influence Asset Protection, Safety, and Procedural compliance. Develops leadership teams through training and mentoring. Develops GIOC leadership team's understanding of all policies. Assists the Vice President of Risk & Compliance with overseeing, coaching, and providing direction to the Asset Protection and Safety team. Responsible for assisting the Vice President of Risk & Compliance with providing effective leadership and management for the Asset Protection, Safety, Risk Management, Corporate Compliance Program Goodwill Industries of Orange County. Directly oversees the Asset Protection and Safety Programs for Donated Goods Retail, Transportation Services, Recycling Operations, Landmark Services and Community Based Services. Supervises and Coaches assigned Asset Protection and Safety team members in prevention, investigations, compliance enforcement, policy development, exception reporting, safety, goal setting, shoplifting, and tracking of KPI's. Oversees Security Officers, Physical Security and Security Operations at all facilities as well as special events and Security Operations. Directly oversees the Security Operations Support Team responsible for support services, crisis response and physical security keys, alarms, POS, Access Systems, GPS, badging systems, etc. Assists the Vice President of Risk & Compliance with development of department budgets and ensuring departments control expenses. Responsible for monitoring and control of Asset Protection and Safety payroll expense management and compliance. Improves operational systems, processes, efficiencies and policies to support department and the Mission. Manages people and culture and physical assets by effectively and efficiently leading, motivating, coaching, training, planning, organizing, prioritizing, problem solving, and disciplining. Facilitates monthly Asset Protection and Safety Committee meetings. Ensures membership includes every department and programs of GIOC. Provides program updates, monthly training/awareness program, and solicits feedback, questions, and recommendations from the committee. Responsible for the Corporations compliance to Asset Protection and Safety training programs. Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary group and be a leader. Maintains confidentiality related to investigations and other matters involving private and/or sensitive information related to employees, program participants, and the organization, etc. Behaves with integrity and acts as a role model for ethical behavior; performs position functions with consistency and fairness when dealing with others. Serves as an active member of the emergency response teams and responsible for maintaining a current response plan and training team members. Responsible for identifying opportunities in business controls, development of procedures, partnering with appropriate leadership to gain consensus, implementation, and ongoing execution of policy. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in responding to security and safety matters 24/7. Serves as a permanent member of the Asset Protection and Safety Committees. Manages the implementation of programs designed to protect company assets and prevent employee and customer injuries. Maintains current knowledge of state, federal, and OSHA regulations and ensures compliance by balancing business objectives and the safety of GIOC facilities. Monitors new legislation as it relates to safety and health standards and facilities changes, as necessary. Visits company locations to conduct evaluations of hazardous conditions and ongoing assessments of current Asset Protection and safety programs as well as the standard operational controls. Implements improvements as needed. Develops safety program policies, both companywide and department specific, and provides staff training to ensure compliance. Generates effective internal communications to increase safety program awareness through use of email, presentations, banners, posters, safety memos, intranet, etc. Works closely with Safety and Risk Specialist to conduct investigations and analyze cause of injuries. Establishes and maintains notification procedures to ensure prompt notification of W/C incidents, G/L incidents, and property incidents. Ensures proper procedures are followed after each incident regarding post incident/injury investigations, Management Incident Review Process, and post incident drug testing. Develops management level reporting procedures for W/C injuries, claim rates, G/L injuries, property incidents, goal vs. actual, casual analysis, incurred expense, etc. Reporting could be of varying frequency depending on content and need. Monitors and analyzes safety trends and implements programs designed to improve company results and prevent injuries. Ensures safety program goals are achieved by providing technical guidance and influencing supervisors and employees to comply with safety policies and procedures. Develops and maintains ergonomic standards and testing for designated positions. Partners with the Learning & Development department to oversee the development of a Best in Class safety orientation, monthly training/awareness programs, and periodic safety campaigns focused on reducing W/C claims. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with senior management to ensure proper communication of safety issues, including investigation findings, results, and future safety strategies. Responsible for developing and execution of the Company's Emergency Management Program and communicating emergency planning and response procedures for all facilities. Ensures notification of all injuries and property damage incidents. Supervises the Safety and Risk Specialist in the performance of ensuring leadership is completing post-incident investigations, Management Incident Review Process, corrective action, and/or retraining as required. Implements standards of performance, benchmarks, and key performance indicators that allow accurate measurement of performance and improvement. Provides training and direction to Store Management teams and employees on prevention programs designed to protect company assets from loss due to internal and external fraud. Evaluates cause of asset loss and conducts investigations or other actions required for resolution. Conducts and manages company investigations: Provides surveillance of employees, contractors, visitors, and other guests to Goodwill facilitates. Conducts interviews as required to resolve investigations. Creates and maintains records of investigations, apprehensions, interviews, witnesses, evidence, and disposition of recovered merchandise. Observes employee's activities and reports infractions of company asset protection policies and procedures. Participates in court hearings for those apprehended as needed. Develops and maintains liaisons with the local police and other security/asset protection organizations. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with senior management to ensure proper communication of asset protection issues, including investigation findings, results, and future asset protection strategies. Educates and motivates all managers and employees to achieve Asset Protection and Safety goals. Drives on company business as required. Performs other job related duties as required. Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property. Acts safely at all times, following all safety rules and regulations. Follows all company policies and procedures. Promotes and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork. Assists and shares knowledge and information with other employees as needed. Uses good interpersonal skills such as courtesy, sensitivity, politeness, and thoughtfulness. Works with, trains, and/or acts as a good example for program participants receiving training at Goodwill.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in related fields or will consider experience in lieu of degree. Four years prior experience in physical security, audit, asset protection/loss prevention, and loss prevention and investigative services preferred. Five years supervisory experience preferred. Certified by Wicklander - Zulawski in Basic and Advanced interview courses. Three-plus years' experience with multiple locations, inventory control, and point of sale preferred. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Flexible and adaptable in handling asset protection matters 24 hours per day. Excellent writing skills. PC proficiency in MS Office. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to interact with all levels of management, employees, guests, security agencies, law enforcement, and the general public. Extensive knowledge of current laws relating to security, safety, and asset protection issues as they affect employers/employees, customers, contractors, and others who have contact with or do business with the organization. Valid California driver's license, liability insurance, and a DMV record which is acceptable to Goodwill's insurance company.
