TITLE:
Manager, Global Health Education
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Senior Director, Global Operations and Program Development
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Manage the existing American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) portfolio for global health education directed at both members and international learners, including the Global Health Education Course (GHEC) and Global Health Education for Equity, Antiracism and Decolonization (GHEARD) project. Manage the development of new global health curricula and key partnerships. Write grant applications to fund development of new global health curricula, as well as field testing, implementation, and evaluation of curricula. Oversee the coordination and implementation of relevant studies related to global education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage implementation of the yearly Global Health Education Course. Oversee Steering Committee in curriculum development. Liaise with simulation team to incorporate innovative learning and collaborate on expansion of simulation resources related to global health education. Liaise with education team in planning of live course. Oversee ongoing evaluation of the course for continued improvement and coordinate dissemination of results through presentations and publications.
2. Manage final stages of development and future innovation of the GHEARD curriculum and provide ongoing program management of all activities related to GHEARD. Manage the Project Advisory Committee meetings and implementation activities. Manage field (beta) testing, implementation, evaluation of curricula, and dissemination of results.
3. Identify the need for new curricula in global health education. Assess feasibility and cost, oversee program design and timelines for program development. Develop components, liaise with Education staff to execute dissemination via the AAP Learning Management System, create marketing plan, and implement training.
6. Assist in developing funding grant proposals and budgets towards the development of new global health curricula, field testing, implementation and evaluation. Oversee execution of awarded grants and deliverables.
7. Serve as a point of contact for those interested in implementing global health education. Foster connections with AAP members and support networking with in-country contacts for sustainable program administration.
8. Assist in the pursuit of ethical approval, regulatory oversight of implementation activities, program evaluation, review and editing of publications, and dissemination of results related to global health education activities.
9. Evaluate global health education programming for comprehension at appropriate learning levels, consistency of style, educational design, institutional integrity, and compatibility with existing policies.
10. Develop and implement the global pediatric emergency course. Oversee Steering Committee in the curriculum development. Develop and manage budget and customer service initiatives associated with the program.
11. Develop and manage customer service processes with global health education courses and initiatives.
12. Develop and monitor assigned budgets, monitor monthly expenses, and provide reports as required.
13. Manage development and expansion of assigned web sites, social media, and course reporting database.
14. Work with global health staff to coordinate volunteer mentor activities.
15. Analyze partner, mentor, and trainer queries and implement process improvements that increase productivity and service delivery of global health education courses and synergy with other clinical skills programs.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelors' degree in education, public health, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required. Master's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
At least three years' related experience in coordinating or managing public health programs required, including training/educational programs, collaborating with various internal and external constituents, drafting/editing communications, and budget management. Experience with adult or continuing education, global initiatives, needs assessment, writing federal or foundation grants/contracts, and working in a professional association strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Excellent organizational, verbal/written communication, critical thinking, project management, interpersonal, and diplomacy skills required. Must be able to manage multiple complex priorities simultaneously within tight deadlines, handle a heavy workload, take initiative, lead cross-functional teams, manage budgets, pay close attention to detail, coordinate logistical challenges of international programs, communicate with cultural sensitivity, think creatively, work both independently and as part of a team, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn apply new technologies; experience with web editing software (e.g., SharePoint), databases, virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams), document collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint), and social media platforms preferred. Knowledge of foreign language(s) desirable. Domestic and international travel and evening/weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability.
Hybrid work environment of 40% of work time in the office per month.
