The opportunity:

The Master of a subsea rock installation vessel (SRIV) has the overriding responsibility for the safe operations of the vessel and crew. They are given all necessary support and authority to perform their duties properly and in a safe manner by the Company. This position reports to the Director of Marine Operations - Offshore Wind. The majority of assignments are carried out at remote locations while onboard the SRIV. The SRIV is assigned to a specific project and is furnished charts and other data specifying the scope of rock installation. In addition to the appropriate nautical rules of the road, the most fully utilized license functional areas are piloting, seamanship including ship handling, and tides and currents. Regulatory controls or guides include Navigation Rules and Regulations prescribed by the U.S. Coast Guard, wind farm or other project charts, and established ranges. The work is checked by review of the daily vessel reports and occasional inspections of standards established by the supervisor or owner.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages and oversees the safe operation of a SRIV.
  • Supervises crew, interacts with mates in determining the best sailing plan for the vessel.
  • Trains personnel and maintains the vessel's seaworthiness.
  • Prepares payroll reports, maintains personnel records and files.
  • Conducts daily safety inspections and ensures a robust safety culture is followed on the vessel.
  • Responsible for compliance with all statutory rules and regulations, and the company's operating policies and procedures, and serves as the vessels medical officer.
  • Responsible to ensure all crewmembers, assigned to the vessel, are qualified; all qualifications are verified and entered into the company NS5 system.
  • Must be able to operate the maintenance management system and develop knowledge of regulations required for proper administration and procurement of supplies.
  • Must be capable of coordinating with the Offshore Construction Manager stationed on the vessel when preparing rock installation plans during a project.
  • Make assessments of weather patterns and ocean environmental conditions to assess the vessel DP operations.
  • May be assigned other duties.

Qualifications:
  • Possess U.S. Coast Guard license as Master of self-propelled vessels of unlimited tonnage upon oceans.
  • Carry an unlimited DP credential.
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a TWIC card and passport.
  • Knowledge of navigating ports/wind farms and performing DP operations in close proximity to offshore structures.
  • Strong understanding DP system functionality and DP Capability Plots.
  • Possess the ability to understand the principles of operation of automated rock installation equipment and related mechanical systems in conjunction with the DP system.
  • Capable of being trained in the operation, troubleshooting, and repairs of electronic/mechanical systems onboard an SRIV such as a fallpipe system.
  • Strong communication skills writing/editing procedures for offshore vessel operations.
  • 5+ Years experience as a Captain/Master of a DP vessel.
  • Prior experience onboard rock installation vessels is preferred or similar experience onboard similar DP vessels performing critical operations.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel
