The Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB) is California's trusted, objective provider of actuarially-based information and research, advisory pure premium rates, and educational services integral to a healthy workers' compensation system. The WCIRB is a California unincorporated, private, nonprofit association comprised of all companies licensed to transact workers' compensation insurance in California, and has over 400 member companies. No state money is used to fund its operations. The operations of the WCIRB are funded primarily by membership fees and assessments.

To accurately measure the cost of providing workers' compensation benefits, the WCIRB performs a number of functions, including collection of premium and loss data on every workers' compensation insurance policy, examination of policy documents, inspections of insured businesses, and test audits of insurer payroll audits and claims classification.

The WCIRB employs approximately 175 people. The home office is located in Oakland, California.

Title: Data Integration (DI) Engineer

Location: 1901 Harrison Street, 17th Floor, Oakland, CA - 94612

Job Description: Analyze data values and data patterns to identify the relationships that link desperate data elements into logical units of information or "business objects". Identify and document the transformation rules, atomic grain of the data in the source systems. Responsible for the full ownership and utilization of the IBM Infosphere Discovery to perform the data discovery tasks. Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for Enterprise Data architecture and development in conjunction with end users, business partners and other stakeholders. Create and maintain information on the enterprise critical data entities, data attributes and calculations. Organize the information by business units or subject areas. Responsible for analyzing the aligning the enterprise data models with other business models. Create and maintain enterprise Data Warehouse conceptual, logical, and physical data models. Assist data Systems analysts to analyze and document business and data requirements using EDM recommended techniques. Identify and manage the resolution of data quality and data security issues such as uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, privacy, and completeness in a cost-effective and timely fashion. Create elaborative unit test plan different test cases. Executes each unit test case and ensures that quality meets design specifications prior to quality assurance/integration testing. Support data/Information governance by providing reporting and traceability on data movement, modeling and business intelligence applications as required by regulatory requirements. Telecommuting permissible three (3) days per week.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign degree equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering (any) and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related role.

Experience and/or education must include:

  • Design, Implementation and Maintenance of Data Model in Datawarehouse composed of data from multiple Systems such as MS SQL server.
  • Creation of ETL Workflow for Data Integration to facilitate data load into the Datawarehouse for generating reports containing metrics for the customers.
  • Conduct Data Analysis to understand business requirements on the unstructured sources;
  • Design and Development of the ETL (Extract Transform and Load) and solutions using IBM Infosphere DataStage and Stored procedures.
  • Building of Visual Reports for Internal Customers to show KPI's
  • Development of project schedules and ETL process as per the project requirements and
  • Experience in Agile and SDLC Process.
  • IBM Infosphere Foundation Tools and scripting in UNIX for Automation of File Transfer, Archival or deletion process.
