Moffitt Cancer Center is recruiting for a Couch BioImaging Director
  • The Couch BioImaging Director will provide leadership and oversight of Moffitt's new Nikon Center of Excellence (NCOE) facility for advanced imaging technologies. This position will provide an exciting opportunity to build a new advanced microscopy facility from the ground up. The facility with be initially based on Moffitt's Magnolia campus but will be expanded as a featured facility at Moffitt's new Speros Center for Innovation. The NCOE will be a key component of the Center's new Bioengineering Department, that promises to bring together expertise from a diverse set of disciplines to fuel new discoveries and innovations in support of Moffitt science and ultimately patient care.

Key responsibilities
  • Facility Oversight: position will provide scientific and technical direction in support of the state-of-the-science advanced microscopy imaging facility.
  • Technical Resource: works closely with Faculty as an institutional resource for advanced microscopy applications, encompassing support for experimental design, hands-on application of microscopy imaging techniques on cutting edge platforms, training, and data analysis.
  • Day-to-Day Facility Management: responsible for the day-to-day administration of the facility and management of staff including hiring performance reviews, mentoring, and termination, cost recovery activities, facility access policies and maintaining relationships with diverse set of stakeholders across the institute.
  • Advanced Microscopy Leadership: organizes MCC-based workshops, symposia, and conferences as part of establishing MCC as regional and national leader in latest microscopy techniques and applications.
  • Industry Engagement and Collaborations: work closely industry players such as pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, or technology companies, often in collaboration with MCC Faculty. This involves identifying potential collaborators, initiating contact, and fostering relationships to explore potential projects and collaborations. Facilitate technology transfer opportunities and provide overall project management industry-sponsored projects.
  • Financial Responsibilities: write and submit grants, RFPs and shared instrumentation grants as part of the facility's financial sustainability responsibilities. Work closely with administration to manage annual operating and capital budgets. Responsible for generating project specific budgets for grants, contracts and agreements in support Faculty science utilizing advanced microscopy.
  • Training & Education: work closely with the Analytic Microscopy Core in providing Moffitt graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, residents, and Faculty to organize and provide basic and advanced microscopy training courses.

Education/Experience
  • Education: Master's Degree required, PhD, preferred.
  • Ten (10) years advanced microscopy imaging experience.
  • Three (3) years Supervisory experience.
  • Technical expert in Core specific technologies. Track record that demonstrates significant contributions to grant proposals, patent applications and manuscript preparation.
  • Experience in a customer-oriented service laboratory/core facility is required.
  • Must have experience in supervising staff, preparing, and maintaining budgets and administrative functions associated with the management of a Shared Resource or Core facility.
