Description:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) works closely with the Director of Nursing to oversee the daily operations of the nursing department to ensure that all staff adhere to established policies and procedures. The ADON is involved in ongoing monitoring and evaluation to assess, plan and implement the delivery of patient care; preserving and improving the quality and efficiency of patient assessment and treatment care provided by FHE and external providers; responsible for the development and evaluation and supervision of nursing personnel.
Assists managing the daily operations of the nursing department, and helps in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies, procedures, and systems.
Assists interviewing and hiring new staff and helps oversees the onboarding process by training them or assigning to a mentor.
Works with Staffing Coordinator and DON on staffing schedule to ensure proper staffing levels, and monitors payroll to eliminate overtime hours.
Supervises, evaluates, and coaches nursing staff to improve performance, and handles disciplinary issues.
Works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
Ensures compliance with FHE policies in accordance with DCF, CARF, AHCA and Joint Commission regulations and standards and other state and federal regulations.
Participates in the multi-disciplinary treatment team/staffing meetings and provides feedback to the team regarding patient response to interventions.
Communicates with ancillary services, patients, co-workers, medical staff and other healthcare providers.
Attends staff and Performance Improvement (PI) meetings and other committees as required.
Participates in the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
Shares pertinent information with team as obtained from patients or family throughout program.
Ensures lab specimens are obtained as ordered by the doctor.
Demonstrates knowledge of program policies and procedures and develops new policies, as needed.
Attends daily patient staffing, huddle and rounds meeting.
Ensures compliance with established infection control, OSHA regulations and risk management.
Addresses and resolves patient and family concerns or complaints.
Assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for nursing department
Handles emergency calls as necessary and informs Director of Nursing, and/or Chief Medical Director and/or Medical Director when appropriate.
Graduate from accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of BSN, MSN preferred.
Active Florida Licensed Registered Nurse
Minimum of 5 years' experience in nursing with a minimum of 2 years' in supervisory experience preferred
Current CPR Certification
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Previous work with substance abuse//behavioral health required
Knowledge of addiction and recovery required
IV & Phlebotomy proficient preferred
Knowledge of drug classifications and respective medication protocol
Knowledge of CARF, DCF and Joint Commission Standards
Knowledge of infection control and risk management
Strong written and communications skills required
Problem-solving skills required

Working Conditions
- May be required to work on Saturdays and/or Sundays
- May be required to report to work on, during or before a hurricane or other natural disaster.
- May be required to work on holidays.
- May be required to stay late or come in early from normal work schedule.
- Work under minimum amount of supervision
- May be required to work on several tasks at the same time
- May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens
- May involve intense, and stressful conditions working directly with patients and family members.
- Interacts with patients dually diagnosed with severe behavioral, emotional, family problems and substance abuse.
- Due to the nature of our business, and in order to ensure the safety and health of our patients, employees and visitors, FHE and Affiliates utilizes video surveillance cameras in various locations inside and exterior areas at all the facilities and at JoJo's caf.
- FHE and its Affiliates may conduct video surveillance of any portion of its premises at any time, the only exception being private areas of restrooms, showers, and dressing rooms.
- For quality assurance, taped recordings of telephone conversations may be made, with or without an immediate notification that it is occurring at that time.
