Location: Valleyfield
We are pleased to offer an exciting growth opportunity for an Intermediate Materials Engineer to join our skilled Materials Technology Group, with an initial 12-month placement in Valleyfield, Quebec at our CEZinc operation. Our team of expert materials engineers based in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada is dedicated to enhancing the reliability of critical equipment by implementing proven materials practices at key stages of design, procurement, and operation. We also leverage the expertise of our XPS partners in process control, extractive metallurgy, and process mineralogy to complement our skills and deliver comprehensive support.
The group is well equipped to address needs through on-site plant support , design engineering and laboratory materials testing and root cause failure analysis. We can reduce risk and add value to our client's project or operation through:
- Quality Assurance / Quality Control in Equipment Fabrication
- Equipment Integrity Assessment
- Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
- Materials Selection
- Materials Testing for Corrosion and Wear
- Equipment Fabrication Specifications
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
The primary functions of the Materials Engineer are:
- On-site inspection and evaluation of in-service plant equipment, including confined space entry
- QAQC on new equipment during fabrication or existing equipment repairs
- Assist in repair designs of plant equipment in areas of welding, masonry, coating, non-metals
- Support laboratory testing of materials for corrosion, wear and structural applications
- Support laboratory RCFA projects
- A commitment to safety and sustainability
- Provide and develop specialized knowledge and expertise for our clients
- Provide support to Manager, must be willing to participate in projects worldwide
Education/Experience/Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor or Graduate degree with specialization in materials or metallurgical engineering
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
- Registered or eligible for P.Eng or ing. licensing is necessary
- Previous work or academic experience with root cause failure analysis
- Understanding and exposure to base metals flowsheets
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Ability to work inside confined spaces and wear applicable personal protective equipment
- Project management skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic team
- An acute business sense and entrepreneurial spirit
- Excellent problem solving, time management and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
- Proficiency of MS Office Suite
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
- French and English language skills required
