SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Plant Engineer is responsible for facility, equipment, and production systems maintenance along with environmental plant energy utilization, Operational Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), local capital planning and deployment, and management of capital projects. Insures facility structure and infrastructure is maintained to meet or exceed the operational needs including but not limited to: grounds maintenance and electrical, mechanical, wastewater, boiler and refrigeration systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops and deploys overall plant technical strategies and tactics focused on operations, safety, energy
usage, engineering projects, and maintenance improvement.
Manages the day-to-day plant technical organization and is responsible to deliver maximum equipment / system uptime.
Responsible for directing the maintenance department of the facility.
Manages project issues, budgets, and schedules.
Perform engineering duties surrounding the following;
mechanical devices, components, environmental control, automated manufacturing equipment and facility structures.
Prepare technical construction specifications. Maintains accurate and current drawings of plant floor and layouts.
Oversee installation, operation, to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to approved specifications.
Develop and test models of alternative machinery and equipment designs and processing methods to assess the feasibility, operating conditions effects and necessity of modification.
Estimate cost and submit bids for engineering construction, equipment and facility upgrades.
Establish and coordinate the safety procedures, service schedules, Quality specifications, Operational specifications and Sanitation specifications into the design of each project.
Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
Recommend design modifications to eliminate equipment or system malfunctions.
Perform all training in full compliance with all company, state and/or federal safety and environmental regulations, on new projects or existing systems.
Participate in the budget making process for the maintenance department
Participate in the process/systems involving governmental regulatory bodies such as EPA, OSHA, USDA, DHEC and other government bodies Participate in the compliance with company risk management
plan/process safety management plan (PSM) HVAC systems and Wastewater.
Education
Bachelor's
degree in Engineering from an accredited college preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in an Engineering/Maintenance role with manufacturing sector experience preferred. Preferably 5+ years of progressive experience in a beef or food processing facility including leadership or managerial responsibility. In-depth knowledge of the food manufacturing aspects of a further processing operation.

Must Demonstrate: Recognized leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills. Computer kills MS Office, Excel and Auto CAD Critical thinking; oral and written communication and decision-making skills. Effective communication skills in one-on-one and group situations. Ability to evaluate manufacturing processes and identify needed improvements. Ability to work effectively in a team atmosphere. Ability to handle various responsibilities simultaneously, Ability to prioritize multiple projects. Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations and codes. Prepare and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts and other visual aids.
Travel Requirements
Up to 25% travel. Position requires time spent on the
manufacturing floor.
