POSITION OVERVIEW
Under direction of the Building Principal, the Instructional Coach serves as a teacher leader and specialist in math, science, reading, writing, or other specialized content area and facilitates professional development related to the school and district's instruction and curriculum goals aligned with demonstrated instructional/professional needs. As a leader and specialist, the Instructional Coach works with, coaches, and supports other teachers and support staff in identifying, developing, and implementing curriculum, assessment and instructional strategies designed to improve student learning in specific areas. The Instructional Coach shares the responsibility for student safety and appropriate collaboration and attention to each student's readiness to learn including needed guidance, discipline, and welfare.

Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

- Provides the appropriate educational opportunities and instruction for each student, according to his/her needs and abilities.
- Works with teachers to determine student needs.
- Provides guidance and professional development in reading strategies.
- Works closely with District Reading Specialist.
- Analyzes test data to determine strengths and weaknesses of the program.
- Prepares in advance appropriate lesson plan which match district curriculum.
- Keeps accurate records, tests, reports, etc. as required by Delaware Statutes and policies, Federal Regulations, and School Board Policy to demonstrate student performance.
- Establishes and maintains good rapport and communication with students, school personnel and parents.
- Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
- Works closely with guidance/special education personnel/outside resources to assist students with special needs.
- Integrates technology in instruction.
- Works continuously toward self-improvement through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
- Participates in all meetings (IEP), conferences, etc.).
- Supports teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
- Contributes to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
- Supports teachers by helping with the strategic how of teaching -- share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times and/or PLCs.
- Provides feedback (non-evaluative) for a teacher's professional growth and students' success.
- Develops staff members' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
- Assists teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Below are the qualifications for this position:
- Minimum 5 years' experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students and teachers.
- Must already have Reading Specialist Certification
- One-year experience as a reading specialist at the appropriate grade level - Preferred.
- Knowledge of Delaware State Content Standards, Assessment & Accountability.
- Master's degree in Education or a Bachelor's degree plus 30 graduate credits.
- Three years of teaching experience at the appropriate level.
- Experience and knowledge of a variety of reading strategies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.
- Knowledge of best practices.
- Minimum of three graduate semester hours from among the following: Seminar in Reading Research, Emergency Literacy, Teaching English as a Second Language or Children's or Adolescent Literature.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
- Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.
- Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.
