POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Prospect Development and Strategic Engagement is responsible for leading the university's efforts in identifying, cultivating, and engaging prospective donors, partners, and stakeholders to support the HBCU's mission and strategic priorities. This position plays a crucial role in building and strengthening relationships with key constituencies, ultimately driving increased philanthropic support and strategic engagement for the institution.

The Director of Prospect Development and Strategic Engagement is responsible for leading the university's efforts in identifying, cultivating, and engaging prospective donors, partners, and stakeholders to support the HBCU's mission and strategic priorities. This position plays a crucial role in building and strengthening relationships with key constituencies, ultimately driving increased philanthropic support and strategic engagement for the institution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement a comprehensive prospect development and strategic engagement strategy aligned with the institution's priorities
- Oversee the prospect research function, including wealth screening, data analysis, and profile development, to identify, qualify, and prioritize potential major gift donors
- Manage a portfolio of high-capacity individual, corporate, and foundation prospects, creating personalized engagement plans and coordinating solicitation efforts; coordinate face-to-face meetings and proposals
- Analyze performance metrics, generate reports, and use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and continually improve prospect development processes
- Lead team of gift officers; provide mentorship, training and strategy development
- Guide staff outreach to engage campus partners in donor identification and stewardship
- Conduct stewardship and impact reporting for university leadership donors
- Collaborate on campaign strategies, case statements, metrics reporting and forecasts
- Monitor the CRM system; ensure accuracy of constituent and prospect records
- provide training and guidance to the Institutional Advancement team on best practices in prospect management, donor cultivation, and strategic engagement
- Direct the planning and execution of strategic engagement activities, such as events, cultivation visits, and customized communications, to deepen relationships with key prospects
- Represent department at advancement leadership meetings and governance functions
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the division's overall strategic plan
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
- 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in prospect research and management
- Track record of closing 6-7 figure major gifts through strategic prospect engagement
- Demonstrated success managing teams and collaborating cross-functionally
- Strong analytic, problem-solving and relationship building skills
- Commitment to the mission and values of LeMoyne-Owen College
- Supervisory experience and a talent for building and leading high-performing teams
- Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills; strong negotiating and analytical problem-solving skills
- Ability to comprehend, interpret and effectively communicate complex technical information throughout all levels of the organization
- Understanding of computer systems characteristics, features, and integration capabilities
- Strong record of innovation and the ability to understand and have an awareness of emerging trends in information technology within higher education
- Familiarity with wealth screening tools, CRM systems and prospect research best practices
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credential
- Proficiency with analytical and presentation software
