This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. - Reports to the Manager, Fleet Services.
- Responsible and accountable for the supervision of a highly responsive, 365 day/year, 24 hr/day organization with representatives dispatched from Bath ME onboard Naval Vessels and/or to Naval Homeports worldwide.
- Spearheads the planning, coordination and supervision of the completion of shipboard incomplete new construction work, warranty and Government-tasked emergent repairs in the areas of Hull, Mechanical and Electrical.
- Assists with the resolution of alleged guarantee items and/or incomplete new construction work items.
- Provides support of ship exercises, tests and surveys, including Post Delivery Test & Trials, Combat Systems Ship's Qualification Trial, Final Contract Trials, Decking Survey, Corrosion Control Survey, etc. as required.
- Conducts daily interaction with the customers, including: Ship's Commanding Officer and Crew, SUPSHIP Bath, PMS-400D, Port Engineer and various Navy support organizations.
- Provides Class design/performance feedback & recommendations to the appropriate Government and/or BIW entities, to affect future Engineering Change Proposals, ShipAlts, maintenance and/or reduce potential rework.
- Contracts with, and provides project management and technical oversight of, subcontractors for industrial services, OEM tech rep services and other activities to plan and execute repairs and ship/system upgrades.
- Be on-call 24 hours/day, 365 days/year and prepared to travel on short notice anywhere in the world providing "rapid response" customer service.
- Special projects as assigned.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- At a minimum the candidate should possess an Associate's Degree in a technical or business discipline, and/or be a graduate of a shipyard apprentice program.
- An undergraduate degree in Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a similar discipline is preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience
- Candidate should have (10+) years of collective experience in Marine Engineering, USN or Commercial Fleet Lifecycle Support in the areas of maintenance and repair.
- In-depth knowledge of DDG-51 Class Destroyers, along with experience gained in a Navy waterfront maintenance environment, will factor significantly in the selection process.
- Possess strong computer, oral, written, analytical and interpersonal skills, coupled with an ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.
- Project management and coordination skills required.
- Ability to plan, organize and execute project.
- ability to effectively manage multiple projects/assignments and meet schedule demands.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict and multiple priorities.
- Positive attitude towards a teaming environment and demonstrated ability to function as a contributing team member.
- Demonstrated self-initiative to accomplish tasks and perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Enthusiasm for taking on new challenges and desire for follow-through and success.
- Ability to represent BIW's position on various production, contractual and technical matters in a professional yet assertive manner.
- Successful experience in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.
