As an Associate Attorney at HeplerBroom, your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting partners in managing insurance, personal injury, premises, insurance broker E&O, municipal, and coverage defense practices.
  • Defending case files from inception through trial.
  • Handling depositions of parties, witnesses, treating physicians, and experts.
  • Drafting and arguing routine and substantive motions.
  • Attending court hearings in various counties and courthouses, as well as via Zoom.
  • Preparing status and trial strategy reports for clients.
  • Conducting examinations under oath, performing ancillary legal research, and authoring coverage opinions for claims adjusting personnel and in-house counsel.
  • Drafting and prosecuting declaratory judgment actions on insurance coverage questions and defending contractual and extracontractual coverage actions.
  • Managing all aspects of discovery, including drafting and answering interrogatories, production requests, and requests to admit.

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Legal Qualifications:
    • Good standing with the Illinois bar; Indiana license preferred but not required.
    • Experience in Illinois state and federal courts, including the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
  • Skills and Experience:
    • Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Willingness to proactively seek guidance with work tasks when necessary.
    • Strong research and analytical skills.
    • Deposition experience (preferred).
    • Meaningful litigation experience (preferred).
