The Heat Exchanger Design Engineer, designs, develops, analyzes and provides drawing layout definition for heat exchangers on commercial and military aerospace applications. The Heat Exchanger Design Engineer collaborates with Systems, Project, Aero-thermal, Structures, Materials and Procurement to effectively execute heat exchanger design tasks. The Engineer leads product design reviews internally and with the customer and works closely with the customer to understand and meet product requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design commercial and military heat exchangers and related test equipment
  • Verify heat exchanger sizing meets project requirements such as structural, envelope, interfaces and weight
  • Use CAD software to design heat exchanger details and assemblies
  • Execute heat exchanger standard work and understand product lessons learned
  • Perform stress calculations including finite element analysis
  • Provide drawing layout definition for Drafting
  • Multi-task effectively and work in a fast-paced environment to best meet program/task schedule milestones
  • Assist in other non-program specific part-time initiatives such as producibility and process improvements, automation activities, standard work modification, cost reductions
  • Work closely with Collins joint ventures across the globe to support product designs
  • Support legacy / current in-service program design tasks


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR
  • In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident Green Card holder


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working component design & analysis in aerospace or another industry
  • Advanced CAD modeling software experience (Siemens Unigraphics NX / Teamcenter preferred)
  • Finite element analysis software experience
  • Coding experience using Matlab, Python or other
  • Experience with drawing interpretation and GD&T


The Heat Exchanger Design Engineer has an exciting opportunity to work on new commercial and military programs, including Next-Gen military and other R&D programs. Emerging aircraft system technologies are challenging heat exchanger designs to meet performance, weight and envelope requirements. Additionally, legacy in-service commercial programs are looking to modify existing systems to increase performance and reduce cost. The Engineer is part of an exciting, motivated heat exchanger team rapidly evolving to meet these demands.

The Engineer has opportunities for work travel both regionally and globally and potential for a hybrid work situation (work in office / work from home combination) depending on the individual and the program supported.
