Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/Conservatory degree with 5+ years of Art Management experience in Dance required.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in Dance production and program management in all of the following: educational programing, stage management, production and financial administration.
  • Due to the breadth of instruction this individual provides to students, a working knowledge of a wide variety of dance disciplines is required.
  • Ability to work staggered hours in keeping with student's extra- curricular schedules, including weekends as needed.
  • Experience as a practicing artist.
  • Higher degree a plus.
  • Ability to work closely with students and teaching artists
  • Excellent communication skills. A keen listener and facilitator deeply committed to supporting students and helping to enable their success.
  • Excellent organizational and people skills.
  • Knowledge of Social Media platforms, EMS scheduling software, Harvard Financial Applications.

Schedule

Primarily, Monday through Friday 9am-5pm, with some work at staggered hours in keeping with student's extra- curricular schedules, including weekends and evening as needed

Position Description

Artistic Oversight, Pedagogical Curation, Program Structure and Production (30%)
  • Select teaching artists for non-credit classes, advise them on class descriptions and approach
  • Produce OFA Dance events, student residencies and programming, including:
    • Hire artists and collaborators
    • Develop program structure
    • Secure venues
    • Organize accessibility and day-of support
  • With the OFA Director of Programs:
    • Select visiting artists and develop engagements and partnerships
    • Select guests and partnerships for DEIJ professional development opportunities
    • Oversee all content for visiting artists and residencies
    • Cultivate appropriate partners for collaborative programming
    • Design a renewed mission and programmatic priorities for the extracurricular dance program in response to the OFA's strategic plan

Undergraduate Extracurricular Advising (20%)
  • Provide ongoing guidance and consultation to student-led undergraduate dance groups
  • Provide artistic coaching and feedback for student groups
  • Manage residencies and rehearsals at the Dance Center and OFA dance venues
  • Select undergraduate awardees for dance prize
  • Advise on summer programs and professional development opportunities
  • Write letters of recommendation

Administration (20%)
  • Oversee all logistical processes for more than thirty non-credit classes including:
    • Manage the online registration and payment platform
    • Plan schedule
    • Oversee customer service
    • Track substitute hiring
    • Track and report data on participation
    • Oversee day-to-day operations and general inquiries from prospective students and artists and regular communication with students
  • Hire, onboard, support and supervise fifteen teaching artists and accompanists, 3-5 student class hosts, and 1 Production Manager each semester
  • Supervise one staff member (administrative assistant)
  • Oversee use of all extracurricular dance at 74 Mt. Auburn and Harvard Dance Center studios
  • Serve as OFA liaison with Harvard theater, Dance Media Concentration (TDM) concerning extra-curricular use of the Harvard Dance Center.

Financial Management (15%)
  • In collaboration with the OFA administrative group, manage revenue and expenses for the Dance Program, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and fiscal compliance including:
    • Plan and manage the Dance Program's budget
    • Track income from non-credit classes and Harvard Tuition Assistance Plan
    • Manage payroll for teaching artists, accompanists and Production Manager
    • Contract with and administer payments for visiting artists and other vendors
    • Oversee student class host hourly submissions
    • Manage payments, reimbursements and program related purchases
    • Overseeing refunds for participants in non-credit classes
    • Developing class price structures

Communications (10%)
  • Write press releases and pitches for public relations outreach
  • Manage outreach including calendar postings both on and off campus, targeted email outreach, and social media postings and shares.
    • In collaboration with the OFA communications group:
    • Oversee all digital and print materials including e-blasts, flyers, posters, and Instagram images, with accessibility best practices
    • Update the OFA Dance website

Special Projects (5%)
  • With the OFA Director of Programs:
    • Plan and produce special projects and develop cross-University partnerships
    • Cultivate alliances funding and grant opportunities throughout the institution

Job Summary

The Managing Artistic Lead OFA Dance Program, reports to the Director of Programs for the OFA and oversees for all aspects of extra-curricular dance in the OFA, including artistic and pedagogic curation of programs, hiring of teaching artists, administration and communications. The position advises on all extra-curricular dance for undergraduate student groups and the OFA.

This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable).
