Overview

Directs all administrative and management activities for the Department of Orthopaedics. Leads the administrative team in carrying out the day-to-day operations of the Department. Leads planning for the development of surgical professional services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support in the development and implementation of annual and 3-year programmatic, financial, and operational plans.
  • Leads the administrative team in developing management systems.
  • Leads and manages the Dartmouth Medical School team in developing systems.
  • Assumes lead responsibility for special Clinic-wide or Department-specific projects designated by the Vice President and/or Department Chairman. These projects will include the identification, development, and implementation of programs to enhance the delivery of effective and efficient ambulatory care.
  • Participates as a member of the Clinic's operations management group in an effort to identify and solve operational problems and develop opportunities for new or enhanced patient care services.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with individuals in parallel administrative positions in the Hospital and Medical School to assure full knowledge of all department activities as well as a means of coordinating both the clinical and academic responsibilities of the department.
  • Through affiliation with various state and national organizations, keeps abreast of new developments in the ambulatory care setting - in particular, reimbursement and regulatory changes which may affect the operation of the Hospital.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.


  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience in health care administration, preferably in the ambulatory care setting, or the equivalent education and experience.
    • Master's degree preferred.
    • The ability to relate to and deal effectively with physicians, administrators, support staff and the general public with a high degree of tact and discretion desired.
    • Excellent oral and writing skills.
    • Strong financial background required.
