Description of Job
This full-time position is responsible for leading clinical practices for the Counseling Center at CSU Pueblo. The director will assist and direct mental health triage and will perform brief counseling, referral, consult, outreach, and emergency/crisis assessment services for CSU Pueblo undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. This position works collaboratively with the Director of Health Services and the Student Health & Wellbeing Manager to provide leadership and oversight of the Counseling Center and also works closely with the Wolfpack Wellness team to provide integrated care for students. The position collaborates with the Dean of Students Office, Residence Life & Housing, Center for Student Support & Advocacy, faculty, other campus departments, and community entities.
This position requires a strong background or specialization in one or more of the following areas: sexual assault and other trauma, substance abuse, eating disorders and body issues, anxiety/depression, psychosis, ADHD, and learning disabilities. The director ensures the Counseling Center meets legal, ethical, and accrediting body standards.
The director provides leadership, consultation, and outreach regarding mental health and substance use issues within the University community.
This position will require flexibility in providing after-hour support and care for crisis situations inclusive of consultations.
This position is grant-funded through 8/19/2026. Continuation of the position beyond that date is dependent on institutionalization of position funding.

Primary Duties
Clinical Practice
- Provide individual counseling services to students by completing initial intake information, establishing a diagnostic impression, developing a treatment plan with goals, and determining progress towards the individual student's goals. Collaborate with Wolfpack Wellness Team to ensure the appropriate level of care is utilized to best meet the needs of the student. Refer students to a higher level of care as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention on campus in the event a student is in imminent danger to self or others and arrange transport for immediate evaluation and treatment in a safe environment for the student. This includes completely documenting student behaviors, impression, acuity of student need, and reasons for transport.
- Ensure documentation is completed in the Electronic Health Care record and follows department standards and guidelines.
- Provide leadership for licensed counselors and coordinate related counseling services. Ensure the effective planning, delivery, and evaluation of comprehensive counseling services. Provide the highest level of decision making related to counseling practices and services provided by the Counseling Center. Provide in-direct clinical supervision of unlicensed counselors, counselor-candidates and counseling interns. In collaboration with the Integrated Health Director, oversee the hiring, onboarding, and on-going training of licensed and unlicensed counselors. Develop and update university policies and procedures as appropriate related to mental health concerns.
- Ensure Counseling Services department meets legal, ethical, and accrediting body standards. Ensure all counseling services reflect a commitment to diversity and the inclusion of all students.
- Participate in the University CARES Behavior Intervention Team as needed. Participate in all related trainings arranged by the CARES team. Provide after-hour support and care in crisis situations inclusive of consultations.
- Provide education for students, faculty, and staff regarding mental health issues. This may include but is not limited to providing educational information and training to Resident Assistants, Professional Housing staff, Desk Attendants, student athletes, Greek Life, Student Organizations, and in-classroom participation.
- Represent the department at appropriate University events such as Welcome Week, Orientation, and Discover Day. Participate in Student Affairs division meetings and development activities. Serve on Student Affairs and University committees.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling
- Colorado licensure as a Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor
- Basic computer skills including the use of electronic health records
- Five years of recent or continuing experience in providing counseling services
- Three years of leadership experience in mental health services
- Experience with, or commitment to, working in a diverse workplace and serving diverse clients
- Doctorate in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling
- Demonstrated experience with program management and policy development within a college or university counseling center
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and advocacy for providing services to and collaborating with individuals and communities with marginalized identities
