Description:
The Port Engineer is responsible for maintaining the entire fleet of CTC vessels to Company standards and ensuring that all major maintenance, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, routine, and non-routine maintenance are scheduled and properly completed.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Promote and ensure compliance with safety programs and applicable company policies, processes, and procedures
- Ensure vessel compliance with SIRE audits (for selected vessels), CTC Compliance Department audits, and any audit standards that might be requested by clients
- Assure the seaworthiness, compliance, inspections, and documentation are current with assigned vessel(s) in accordance with the Towing Safety Management System (TSMS)
- Communicate with the Manager of Marine Maintenance, and other appropriate Managers, in the Logistics and Operations Departments regarding vessel repairs, out-of-service requirements, and estimated out-of-service time for repairs.
- Primary point of contact for repairs/services that are submitted by vessels
- Follow-up on each task submission and close out tasks in the Helm Maintenance System
- Assist in all Preventive Maintenance and Inspection Programs
- Assist in maintaining critical spares inventory.
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date vessel data (components, equipment details).
- Schedule and documentation of all preventive maintenance services, annual inspections, and quarterly vessel inspections.
- Evaluate oil samples reports as they are received
- Oversee the scope of work, budgets, and schedules for overhaul/major repair of assigned vessels
- Assist in estimating the cost and timelines of unplanned vessel repairs.
- Determine the most cost-efficient, effective, and timely means for vessel repair.
- Approve material requisitions for projects to monitor and control costs.
- Ensure purchase orders are issued for repair services, parts, and/or equipment.
- Communicate and assist the Manager of Marine Maintenance on assigned overhauls and major repairs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent
- Mechanical training and at least 5 years of engine room or marine maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all duties of vessel maintenance positions.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time to various locations along the Inland Water Ways
Preferred Qualifications:
- College or technical training preferably in maintenance or related area.
- Knowledge TSMS and USCG regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, multi-task, and communicate well.
Physical Capabilities:
- Traverse boats, barges, and tows as needed
- Transport equipment of 60 to 100 pounds up to 1000 feet.
- Ascend/Descend a 90-degree ladder up to 40 feet.
- Move, transport, and position equipment up to 100 pounds.
- Position self to move through an 18-inch diameter hatch.
- Move two (2) feet horizontally and vertically.
- Maintain constant communication with crew members.
- Ability to recognize and identify distant objects, and recognize distances between objects
