Livonia Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified principal who will support and sustain academic-focused leadership for the students, staff and the school community. The principal creates and contributes to highly functioning work and learning environments that exhibit respect and understanding for all individuals.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Webster Elementary is a magnet school within the Livonia Public Schools School District that proudly serves a diverse population of students with special education certifications as well as talented and gifted learners. The Webster principal holds the key leadership position in the operation of all general and special educational programs in the school. ? An effective principal develops a school culture that is student-centered, adaptive, collaborative, innovative, and supportive of efforts to improve achievement of all students. The principal will identify and implement best practices in leadership and instruction to enhance student engagement and achievement.? The principal establishes the school's tone, climate, and direction through careful long-range and short-term planning, assessment, evaluation and monitoring of student progress, and the instructional program.? An effective school leader encourages parents' participation in their children's educational experience and welcomes the involvement of the community. The diverse nature of programs and services coordinated will require ongoing planning and coordination with building administrators, leadership staff within academic and student services departments.

Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members, serving approximately 13,300 students pre-K - post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $175 million, with a state funding of $9,608 per pupil.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Embraces the District's mission, vision and collective commitments in order to make decisions that reflect the District's philosophy that places the needs of children and their education first.
  • Establishes a school culture and climate which engages all stakeholders and values the involvement, leadership and collaboration of others.
  • Facilitates the development and supervision of specialized programs and staff for selected elementary programs.
  • Partners effectively with members of the Academic Services & Student Services Department in implementing district initiatives, programs and services.
  • Provide leadership to programs to assist staff and parents in evaluating educational needs and in modifying or selecting programs and activities to meet these needs.
  • Provide coordination for professional and paraprofessional inservice activities and?training.
  • Assure that the programs and services coordinated by this administrator are in compliance with specialized state and federal requirements.
  • Contributes to the district's four core priority areas.
  • Maintains a collaborative and interactive working relationship with all personnel at District and school levels.????
  • Serves as a learning-centered leader, focused on the continuous development of his/her own knowledge, skills and capabilities, as well as the development of the staff's capabilities and effectiveness as educators.
  • Know and implement the attributes of quality education instruction, accommodations and support services as identified through research in order to validate effective teaching practices and to help teachers expand their repertoire of effective teaching strategies. Establish the expectation for good teaching and possess the skills for supervising and evaluating instruction.
  • Exhibits a demonstrated and unwavering commitment to consistent Tier 1 instruction for all learners, while utilizing an established MTSS for students in need of additional support.
  • Utilizes a comprehensive system of support to address the mental health and/or behavioral needs of students.
  • Stays current with educational developments, legislation affecting education, and participates in professional organizations.
  • Administers and advises on issues of evaluation, discipline, staffing and staff development.
  • Directs the professional staff and other resources of the school toward school improvement.
  • Advocates for student success and for ensuring that the curriculum accommodates each student's academic, enrichment, and specialized needs.
  • Assist?in the recruitment, selection, and recommendation for hiring of teachers and staff.
  • Motivates teachers to have high expectations for students and themselves.
  • Recognizes quality instruction and assessment as identified through research in order to validate effective teaching practices and to help teachers expand their repertoire of effective teaching strategies and assessment techniques.
  • Establishes the expectation for effective teaching and possesses the skills for supervising and evaluating instruction.
  • Motivates and leads the staff in an ongoing and continual process of professional growth and development.
  • Exhibits the ability to effectively utilize data to inform decisions and measures progress of student, adult and school performance.
  • Leads the school staff in identifying professional development needs, setting goals and objectives, developing strategies for change, implementing desired changes, and evaluating program effectiveness using data-driven dialogue and analysis.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe, orderly, and disciplined school environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.?
  • Gains the understanding and cooperation of teachers and students in following the district and school's code of conduct.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of a master's degree with graduate study in any of the following: school administration or educational leadership.
  • Hold a current school administrator's certificate or within 6 months of hire date, enroll in an approved preparation program leading to certification as a school.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Successful experience in planning and providing professional development on a variety of topics.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in working cooperatively with others including staff, teachers, students, families, and the community.
