- Position Summary
- Provides management for designated hospital laboratory. Develops/monitors orientation and training programs for supervised personnel. Monitors work quality and quantity recommending plans for improvement of problem areas. Coordinates orientation and work assignments of new employees. Develops work schedules, inventories/acquires supplies. Manages discipline and evaluation of supervised personnel. Makes hiring and termination recommendations. Purchases supplies and promotes inventory control, cost control and participates in budgeting. Acts as a communications link between medical staff, nursing staff and the laboratory, and is available to staff for consultation in all matters pertaining to the laboratory. Maintains open communications and is available to component organizations and practitioner sites for consultation. Assists the Director, Laboratory, in compiling statistical data. Recommends implementation of additional services or equipment as changes in technologies or physician ordering patterns suggest the need. Knowledgeable of laboratory test procedures with defined automated procedures, calculations and/or indicators that are age dependent. Supervises testing procedures on adult, child, adolescent, neonate and geriatric patients. Evaluates and counsels supervised personnel.

- 3-5 Years Clinical Laboratory management or equivalent - Preferred
- License & Certification
- Registered Medical Technologist MT(ASCP) or equivalent

- Standards from accrediting agencies are reviewed ongoing and processes and policies are designed to meet or exceed standards.
- Performs personnel tasks including hiring, counseling, promoting and discipline staff with guidelines set by human resources. Completes evaluations and competencies in a fair and timely manner. Assures employee orientation and in-service education program and outside conferences.
- Communicates with various organizations and agencies to maintain current knowledge base to ensure compliance.
- Provide leadership to staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management, and outcome achievement. Demonstrate fiscal accountability for department resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources. Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or department functions.
- Makes recommendations for sufficient number of qualified and competent technical and support staff to provide pathology services developing work schedules and allocating personnel based on workload and individual competencies. Performs and delegates preparation of payroll data, following hospital policies regarding worked time and time off. Maintains adequate inventory levels, evaluating/comparing costs routinely.
