Overview

The SBX Sr. System Safety Engineer position is a full-time exempt position. A professional who exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness. Applies and/or develops highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts. Viewed as an expert within the field. Applies government or industry standard engineering tools and processes in the execution of program objectives. Proven ability to be involved with significant size projects and multiple engineering areas with minimal management oversight. Applies advanced engineering skills to major programs. Travel to deployed sites for technical and programmatic meetings is required.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety plans for the SBX-1 Mission Integration contract scope.
  • Evaluate work practices, perform job hazard analysis and safety assessments, report accidents and mishaps, and enforce policy compliance within legal guidelines.
  • Responsible for conducting training sessions and perform oversight, monitor compliance, participate in safety working groups, and provide recommendations for improvement for the safety program with the main goal of ensuring complete and total organizational compliance with occupational safety and health guidelines.
  • Conduct System Safety and Environmental Health and Safety IAW MIL-STD-882E, "Department of Defense Standard Practice: System Safety," and applicable local requirements.
  • provide input to update the SBX Program's Programmatic, Environmental, Safety, and Health Evaluation (PESHE) Report IAW DODI 5000.02T "Operation of the Defense Acquisition System."
  • Perform safety audits.
  • Support the Program Manager in the development of safety related CDRLs.
  • Provide input to the corporate and program safety plan as needed.
  • Reviews schematics, drawings, studies, and test reports for design compliance. Bounds all risk evaluations for design to reduce risk for acceptance. Applies considerable judgment to resolve critical, multifaceted problems spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Supports design reviews and special studies for corrective action, assures that standards and design compliance is achieved. Sought out for consultation and shares knowledge with others.
  • Ensure corporate policies and procedures are adhered to in the day-to-day performance of duties.
  • Support other duties as assigned.


Skills and Competencies
  • BS in Engineering required.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience in the relevant Systems Safety engineering disciplines
  • Familiarity with MDA MAP and PMAP
  • Prior experience with SBX is a plus.
  • Leadership experience in System Safety on DoD programs is required.
  • Ability to work across functions with deployed teams.
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and design implementations.
  • Ability to organize work and deliver on time work products.


Physical Requirements
  • Must pass a D.O.T pre-employment physical.
  • Lift, push, pull and carry between 30-60 lbs. up to 400 feet.
  • Work in adverse or violent motion onboard a vessel.
  • Must be able to climb steep or vertical ladders.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.

Travel

  • Up to 10% Travel to deployed locations
