NATURE OF DUTIES:
The nature of the duties is to assist performance and care of diagnostic and interventional peripheral vascular procedures on MCI ASC out-patients consistent with the objectives of the treatment plan designed for the patient and as directed by the attending physician. Under the supervision and guidance of physicians, the registered nurse assists in planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating care providing professional care to their clients. The RN is responsible and accountable for individual, autonomous nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks and nursing activities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
The MCI ASC Cath Lab-based Registered Nurse will fulfill all essential duties and responsibilities of the RN job description. These duties include but are not limited to:
1. The RN will perform a comprehensive nursing assessment, develop and implement a patient treatment plan consistent with the objectives for treatment of the patients having various cardiovascular procedures in the ambulatory surgery center.
2. The patient and family members will be included in the patient care planning and setting of discharge objectives
3. The RN performs a comprehensive nursing assessment of an individual patient consistent with established standards of care, identifies health care needs, establishes appropriate nursing diagnosis, plans nursing care measures, documents appropriately, interprets data accurately, sets priorities, and communicates with all members of the health care team
4. The RN collaborates with physicians, and other health care providers in the management of the patient's care and evaluates the responses to all interventions
5. Provides individualized health education to the patient and family members from admission through discharge using any appropriate methods/resources necessary to meet the education goals, prepares the patient for diagnostic or surgical procedures, implements holistic therapeutic measures to promote healing and wellness
6. Communicates effectively with all age groups, which pertains to the patients served
7. Demonstrates competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, administers treatments as per standards, interprets normal parameters of diagnostic data, and reports abnormalities of diagnostic data in a timely manner
8. Documents accurately and completely in the EMR and other forms as per established standards.
9. Ability to work as a team member in a stressful environment, to follow directions/instructions of his/her supervisor. Consistent attendance is required. Complies with all MCI/CIS policies, procedures, practices, and Standards of Behavior.
10. Works at the Ambulatory Surgery Center with physicians and technologists in the performance of diagnostic and interventional lab procedures.
11. Is familiar with and at all times cognizant of radiation safety as it pertains to the patient and the staff.
12. Uses sterile technique in preparing for cases, in opening sterile products, in assisting with invasive procedures, and in administration of medications.
13. Participates in the preparation and cleanup of the ambulatory surgery center prior to and after each case.
14. Documents in the medical record accurately and timely for each case under the patient's designated medical record number.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:
1. Keeps work area neat and organized. Reports safety issues to team leader immediately.
2. Works efficiently and manages time wisely. Assist other employees when all duties are complete.
3. Communicates any problems, difficulties or concerns regarding job duties to the team leader.
4. Performs all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity.
5. Meets all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments.
6. Represents MCI/CIS ASC in a professional manner at all times. Demonstrates acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff ("internal customers") and "external customers" (patients, family members, insurance companies, home health etc.) on a professional level at all times.
7. Exhibits good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers at all times.
8. Exhibits whenever possible a harmonious relationship with other MCI/CIS ASC employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position. While perfect harmonious relationships with all employees is sometimes not achievable, not more than an occasional complaint should be received by the team leader about the incumbent of this position.
9. The employee shall work and relate cooperatively with all other employees (internal customers) of MCI/CIS ASC to assure optimum care for the patients of MCI/CIS ASC and to achieve standards of care set forth by the MCI/CIS ASC medical staff.
10. Adheres to the MCI/CIS ASC Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties. Uses best efforts to maintain compliance by following the MCI/CIS ASC Compliance Plan, attending MCI/CIS ASC compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues.
11. Performs accurate and complete documentation in the patient's medical record, when applicable. This includes documentation in both the paper record and the electronic medical record (EMR).
12. Work with the electronic medical record (EMR) staff to maintain quality and work towards future EMR development.
13. Maintains patient confidentiality according to the HIPAA standards of privacy and security.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
1. Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
2. Current licensure the IL State Board of Registered Nurses
3. Advance Cardiac Life Support Certification
4. Basic Life Support Certification
5. Effective Communication Skills
6. Desired:
a. Advanced certification in field of Cardiology/Cardiovascular nursing
b. Two years critical care experience or 2 years Cath Lab experience
