Overview:

As part of the engineering team, responsible for all aspects of MDS's expertise in designing, producing, and installing turnkey test facilities and data systems, the Software Manager will lead the Software department. This includes overseeing software development, resource management, and project execution.

This role ensures that the department's efforts align with MDS's corporate values and strategic objectives, fostering innovation, efficiency, and excellence in software engineering.

What you'll be doing:
  • Leadership & Management:
    • Lead and mentor the software team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
    • Own and optimize software engineering processes and work instructions, driving continuous improvement.
    • Oversee resource allocation, ensuring projects are staffed adequately and managed within budget.
    • Be the escalation point for software-related issues, providing guidance and support to resolve challenges.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, salary reviews, and implement talent management and succession planning.
  • Project Management:
    • Collaborate with Product Managers and other stakeholders to align software development with project deliverables and strategic objectives.
    • Ensure timely and cost-effective execution of the software development roadmap.
    • Prepare and present project execution plans, budget requirements, and status updates to the executive leadership team.
    • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, taking proactive measures to stay on track.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Oversee the development of software for large-scale, evolving systems, with a focus on data acquisition and real-time applications.
    • Participate in design reviews and ensure the delivery of high-quality, tested software products.
    • Support the marketing team with technical insights and cost estimates for proposals and projects.
  • Innovation & Strategy:
    • Drive the standardization of tools, designs, and products across the department.
    • Provide strategic recommendations for new features and upgrades based on user feedback and industry requirements.
    • Keep abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to maintain MDS's position as a leader in software innovation.

What will help you succeed?
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, preferably related to data acquisition systems and turbine engine testing.
    • At least 5 years of management experience, leading software teams and overseeing product development.
    • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems, particularly with real-time or time-critical applications.
    • Experience with modern software development languages and frameworks such as Python, QT, C,C++, and leveraging GIT platforms[JM1] Proven ability to integrate AI/ML models into software solutions to enhance functionality and drive innovation
