POSITION SUMMARY
Works under the direction of supervising faculty physicians to provide medical care for internal medicine patients in the clinic. The role also includes assisting with the education and training of residents and medical students assigned to the clinic. Additionally, the provider will support departmental research clinics, spending 20-35% of their time on clinical care within research activities developed by the Department of Internal Medicine.
Residents and faculty from the University of Kansas School of Medicine--Wichita's Internal Medicine Department provide patient care through our clinic. As a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, you will play a crucial role on our clinical team, supporting new and experienced providers. We are dedicated to continuous quality improvement while providing high quality, efficient health care to patients. We have an amazing staff that promotes teamwork, supports each other, and engages in how the clinic operates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs all medical assessments according to Kansas State law and in conjunction with policies of the facility.
Performs physical exams with detailed histories.
Provides emergency medical care when necessary.
Evaluates patients and prescribes treatments established by written protocols, for related diseased and general medical problems.
Performs medical evaluations for disorders requiring medications.
Reviews X-Ray, laboratory, pathology, and hospital reports and case studies.
Provides structured evaluations and follow-ups.
Reviews cases with supervising physician on a regular basis.
Communicates clearly either written or orally.
Completes written and dictated documentation of patient encounters.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with associates, peers and patients.
Completes all billing and medical records documentation within thirty (30) business days of the patient visit or less time if required by an insurance company, other payor of services, or the hospital or institution at which Provider is performing services.
Attends applicable educational meetings.
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices specific to either physician assistants or advanced practice nurses.
Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all standards for Universal Precautions for blood and body fluid.
Understands and follows all HIPAA guidelines and procedures.
Reliable Attendance and Punctuality.
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master's Degree required for both Physician Assistants and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners.
BSN and Master's required for Nurse Practitioners.
Experience:
Two to four years of related experience preferred.
Experience in a medical office setting and with Electronic Health Records (EHR) is preferred.
Certificates & Licenses:
Licensed in the state of Kansas.
Current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for Pas.
For ARNPs, relevant state-specific advanced practice registered nurse licensure and national certification.
