  • Experience Preferred: Special Education, Counseling, administrative experience; learning management systems, testing and evaluation, and fiscal management desirable.

III. Job Goal:The Program Director of Alternative Education will serve as the Principal of Walter Fitzgerald Campus High School, overseeing all aspects of the alternative education program. This role requires a dynamic leader capable of maintaining high professional standards while developing and implementing programs that support alternative education students' academic achievement and unique needs. The successful candidate will foster a nurturing learning environment, collaborate with stakeholders, and continuously improve educational strategies to ensure student success. This position demands a blend of administrative expertise, academic leadership, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by alternative education students.
IV.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the instructional leader at Walter Fitzgerald Campus.
  • Leads staff in selecting standards-based curriculum and implementing engaging, rigorous instructional programs and activities designed to meet the needs of students and established school goals.
  • Leads staff in planning, developing, organizing, and monitoring effective, research-based intervention and enrichment programs, both in-class and and out-of-class that is timely and targeted to student needs.
  • Works closely with school and district staff, parents, students, and community members to frequently assess the school's educational programs and facility needs and develop short and long-term planning strategies for creating an optimal educational program.
  • Provides staff development and training programs to improve student learning.
  • Manages school administrative functions (e.g., facility maintenance, budget, staffing, etc.) for students' and staff's health, safety, and well-being.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments and administration to maintain alignment, communication, and resource coordination.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with parents, community members, outside agency personnel, and other school stakeholders to develop positive interactions.
  • Coordinates and provides direction/supervision for the school's co-curricular and extracurricular activities, which include but are not limited to student activities, athletics, school publications, fundraising, assemblies, and student organizations for the purpose of maintaining quality student interactions.
  • Responsible for a clean, safe environment and works collaboratively with the Executive Director of Operations to ensure maintenance of the facilities and grounds.
  • Works with pupil services staff members and district administrative personnel to identify needs and develop effective procedures for the organization, administration, and evaluation of pupil services.
  • Advances the district's professional image. Maintains open/effective communications. Uses problem-solving techniques to address and resolve questions/concerns tactfully.
  • Observes and evaluates assigned personnel by the district's guidelines for evaluation and assessment and recommends appropriate action.
  • Provides staff leadership, fosters staff enthusiasm and teamwork, promotes a safe, efficient, and effective work/learning environment, advances the change process, and implements strategies and timeframes to accomplish organizational objectives.
  • Supervises and evaluates staff.
  • Plans and coordinates efforts to improve student attendance.
  • Assure compliance with state and federal mandates in the McKinney Vento and Homeless Youth Programs.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and implements procedures for the district-wide system of student transfers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
