Description:
Job Description: The accounting manager is responsible for the supervision and overall management of
the accounting department overseeing a portfolio of commercial and rental real estate from
development to operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform/oversee aspects of the month-end financial reporting process, including reviewing the
work of staff accountants regarding account reconciliations, preparation and review of journal
entries, and financial statements to ensure the financial statements are complete, timely, and
accurate
Perform/oversee the budgeting and forecasting processes and provide variance analysis on a
monthly basis
Oversee the company's financial accounting processes including the company's financial
accounts, payroll, budgeting, cash receipts, financial assets, accounts payable, and debts
Perform/oversee cash flow forecasting and reporting for variance analysis
Prepare/review required monthly and annual financial reporting required to outside parties
including investors, asset managers, and governmental reporting entities
Work with management to establish and monitor effective internal controls regarding the
financial reporting process
Implement new accounting policies and procedures as required by GAAP standard updates and
ensure proper training for staff on new and required policies and procedures
Coordinate/assist with audit process and prepare/review audit work papers for external audits
performed by third parties
Ensure streamlined, timely, and accurate reporting of operations for reporting to management,
owners, and outside third parties as needed
Recruit, hire and train accounting staff as needed and identify any additional training needs for
current staff
Work with other departments to ensure a seamless reporting process including payroll,
accounts payable, and development
Develop, document and maintain updated written policies and procedures for the accounting
department
Work with management to determine short and long-term financial objectives and policies and
how to best obtain those goals
Perform other duties and projects as necessary or assigned
Qualifications:
Ability to analyze real estate and industry trends and communicate those trends to
management, owners and investors
Thorough understanding and knowledge of GAAP, especially as it applies to the real estate
industry
Excellent management supervisory skills including strong written and verbal communication
skills including interacting with employees, clients, and outside third parties
Self-initiating with strong organizational and time management skills
Proficiency in accounting software, especially Yardi Voyager as well as the Microsoft Suite
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university is required
Eight years or more of experience in real estate ,property management or related experience
required
Familiarity with affordable housing programs such as Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is a plus
