DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides clinical services.
- Maintains clinical expertise and competency as well as demonstrates thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary health care.
- Provides direct primary care services at least sixteen (16) hours per week in the clinic, negotiated in accordance with administrative hours. Clinical hours may increase with the agreement between the Medical Director and the CEO. Serves in an administrative capacity as required by the CEO.
- Examines, diagnoses, treats, and/or refers patients assigned to physician's panel, on an out-patient basis (as per individual employment agreement); prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Follows appropriate standards of care for each patient.
- Refers clients for appropriate specialty care services, lab and x-ray and any other ancillaryservices that areappropriate for patient's management and care. Reviews all lab and x-ray reports for patients under his/her careon a timely basis and makes medical management decisions appropriately.
- Maintains a complete health record for each patient seen in accordance with the Health Center's established Health Information Management policies and procedures.
- Provides clinical direction.
- Prepares and submits monthly written reports for the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer related to Medical Department issues, concerns, program status, initiatives, and progress. Prepares specific reports as requested by the CEO.
- Designs, develops, and implements appropriate Medical Department policies, protocols and procedures which follow the most current accepted professional standards.
- Assists in the preparation of an operating budget for the Medical Department, and in conjunction with the Finance Director, oversees compliance with the Medical Department's budget. In addition, prepares special grant and project budgets as required to meet the goals of the corporation.
- Participates in the preparation of grant applications for the Center and assumes primary responsibility for developing and implementing the medical health care plan.
- Assumes responsibility/accountability for delegating, directing, and supervising patient care activities. Trains, mentors, and supervises students and clinical support staff engaged in activities and procedures, as appropriate. Supervises, advises, counsels, disciplines, and evaluates all Medical Department professional providers in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer.
- Participates in Compliance and Performance Improvement (CPI) activities for continuous quality improvement and risk management purposes.
- Accepts responsibility for remaining current with medical and health care trends and information that impact medical practice.
- Provides clinical supervision.
- Provides clinical supervision to providers to include prescriptive authority and collaborative agreements.
- Provides clinical consultation to physicians and advanced practice providers, ensuring that the medical activities conform to all policies and protocols.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Required
- Knowledge of protocols in general and an ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of the Health Center's current operational and clinical protocols.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Texas Medical Practice Act
- Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, phones, and copiers.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Preferred
- Ability to be clinically fluent in Spanish.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three years clinical experience
- Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine
- Completion of an accredited residency program in an appropriate medical specialty
- Current unrestricted license from the Texas Medical Board to practice as a physician in the State of Texas
- Board Certification.
- Annual continuing medical education as required by the Board.
- Must be registered and have current DEA and other such certificates to legally operate a practitioner in the State of Texas
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Professionals Certification
