Position Summary:

The Maintenance Manager reports directly to the VP of Operations and is a member of the company's management team. She/He is responsible for the overall management and coordination of the maintenance department, safety program and assists and supports engineering projects. The Maintenance Manager is also responsible for interacting with and supporting plant personnel, enforcing all maintenance and reliability procedures, executing and maintaining all employee safety policies, food safety polices and associated administrative policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Maintenance Manager is responsible for developing and executing all proactive maintenance policies and procedures and ensuring their success.
  • The Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing and leading the Maintenance Superintendent, Maintenance Planner, Parts Specialist(s), and all Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Responsible for participating in the company safety program and the company project team.
  • Responsible for implementing plant maintenance programs and ensuring compliance with company standards. Will initiate, implement, and manage the plant maintenance program based upon best practices in the industry with an emphasis on defect elimination, planning/scheduling, and preventative/predictive maintenance.
  • Responsible for managing the department budget.
  • Participates as a functional member of the Food Safety Team and enforces the Company's Food Safety policies.
  • Responsible for enforcing the "Scheduled Maintenance Tools and Parts Accountability Procedure" (1505) and the "New Equipment Purchase/Implementation Program" (1801).
  • Responsible for all maintenance personnel working in adverse conditions, do so in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for motivating maintenance personnel to accomplish company objectives.
  • Responsible for periodically (bi-annually) auditing maintenance processes to ensure compliance with SSOPs and ensure effectiveness of current established practices.
  • Will enforce the maintenance management system for tracking work orders, completing work orders, managing spare parts, and an accurate maintenance history of plant equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring that employee performance reviews are conducted based upon their specific job description to determine competency, knowledge, and the contributions of each maintenance technician.
  • Will enforce the maintenance and updating of operating and training manuals for the maintenance department.
  • Responsible for communicating with Production, Sanitation, Material Control and Quality Assurance to plan and schedule work to ensure food safety standards are upheld while maximizing productivity.
  • Responsible for analyzing and resolving work problems as associated with the maintenance department, project team and the safety team members.
  • Responsible for collaborating with Quality Assurance to resolve food safety issues.
  • Responsible for recommending process improvements, improved equipment design, and solutions concerning maintenance related problems.
  • Directly responsible for the following food safety and plant safety programs:
  • Unscheduled Maintenance Policy
  • Maintenance Program(s)
  • Gump Sifter / Pfenning Sifter Inspection Policies
  • Temporary Repair Policy
  • Tools and Parts Accountability Procedure
  • Hot Work Permits
  • Lock Out/Tag Out - Confined Space - Altitude - Hazmat Safety Program Enforcement
  • Maintenance SDS (Safety Data Sheets)
  • Responsible for participating in grievances and/or other union contract related discussions.
  • The Maintenance Manager is expected to be knowledgeable of market and industry trends as it relates to plant maintenance systems and procedures.
  • The Maintenance Manager is expected to be a role model for the company culture.
  • The incumbent understands and complies with all food safety policies, procedures and programs as stated in the Company's Food Safety Manual.
  • Participates as a functional member of the food safety team and enforce the Food Safety Manual policies. This includes collaborating, leading, and supporting Quality Assurance to resolve food safety issues.

Skills and Experience:
  • Substantial operational engineering experience
  • Outstanding leadership skills
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance (QA) and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) standards
  • Demonstrated application of quality improvement methods such as LEAN, Six Sigma
  • Experience working to regulatory standards: FDA, Good Engineering Practice (GEP)
  • Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP) and Good Documentation Procedures (GDP)
  • Knowledge and experience of site security operations.
  • Experienced working on all aspects of capital projects, including budgeting, design, construction, validation, startup and ongoing operations.
  • Experience in Central Utilities including, but not limited to: Purified Water, Compressed Air, N2, Chilled Water, Steam, Heating Hot Water, NH3, Electricity and Sewage
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Auto CAD, MS Office, and MS Project proficient

Qualifications:
  • Minimum Education Required: Associate degree or related equivalent experience required
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in maintenance management, preferably in a food manufacturing work environment is required
