General Description of Position: The Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout the surgical experience, from admission to discharge, within the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This role involves assessing patient status, administering care, monitoring progress, and effectively communicating with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and comfort.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Efficiently organize and manage surgery center resources.
- Delegate nursing tasks based on staff abilities and qualifications.
- Utilize medical equipment effectively and adhere to accepted standards of practice.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the surgery center.
- Obtain and review patient records, conducting thorough preoperative assessments.
- Provide clear preoperative instructions, explain procedures, and obtain informed consent.
- Perform preoperative testing, promptly reporting any abnormal values.
- Transport patients to the operating room, ensuring their comfort and privacy.
- Prepare the procedure room according to patient and procedure requirements.
- Assess patient status, assist with positioning, and support anesthesia administration.
- Perform duties as a circulating, scrub, or conscious sedation nurse.
- Assist in site identification and confirm the time-out procedure.
- Document post-anesthesia care and continuously monitor patients during recovery.
- Provide nursing care and promptly inform the surgical team of any complications.
- Conduct thorough postoperative assessments and prepare patients for discharge.
- Review postoperative instructions with patients and their families.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
- 12 to 18 months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR).
- Software Skills Required:
- Basic proficiency in alphanumeric data entry, word processing, and typing.
